I carry 4 vertical (upside down) on my back and 2 vertical on front. Horizontal is too big of a profile on me. I am too big to hide behind most trees anyways. Used to have 6 horizontal and took a lot of pod shots. I prefer the ones on the front of my vest; they are easier to get in to when shooting and loading. However they get in the way if I need to hit the deck. Good Luck!

2 pods on my back...I usually use a hopper + half a pod, so I don't need anymore than the smallest I can find.

I'm a pretty big guy and I swear by my Sabre harness, so a 6+2 inverted on my back. At first it was a real pain to be able to grab and replace pods in fight, especially the ones in the middle. After a few games with it though, I was able to position the harness to where even those center pair were easier to get at. Now though, after a should surgery, those center two are impossible. I use now just the outside pair on each side. It's a pretty easy pull, dump, replace now, especially since I don't burn as much paint anymore...and it saves my shoulder! Double bonus I guess...

I currently run with a horizontal 4+1.
Positives:
You can reach either side with either hand. (What do you mean you can't shoot well with both hands?)
You can look down and see which pods are full. I start with the Left bottom, then the Right bottom. Once I get to the top ones I know I have been shooting way too much!
Fits right on my hips, distributing the load on long scenario games.
Negatives:
The biggest issue is the profile that is presented as the pods stick out father then me. However, all things being equal, if the extra two inches of pod on you hip get hit, most likely something much bigger was also sticking out. Be glad they hit the pod.
Hard to roll front your front to your back or vice versa if you forget to prop yourself up a little using your arms and abs.
Depending on how you low crawl you may have a hard time getting to them. Though, rolling slightly left or right always fixed that small issue for me.

I used to have a vertical, but I disliked trying to remember which ones I emptied, HATED not being able to reach it easily (I have a slight shoulder injury, too!). Also, had a few fall out, but that was more me just not paying attentiuon than a fault of the harness. Still, less likey to fall out of a horizontal.
I used to think:
"So what if you shoot 15bps, but I only need to hit you with one"
Then I learned how much fun it is to hit someone once every 1/15th of a second!

I have four pods in the front and four in the back, I usually only fill a few in the front unless its a big game.

I think you should probably wear your pods on your back. though it does it make a bit more difficult to get to them, it also allows you to go prone. If you wear your pods on the they are also more likely to get shot and depending on the quality of your pods they may crack.

I found that it's much more comfortable to hold pods on my back (vertically) than anywhere else... especially when I have to crawl or stay low behind a log.. although having a pod or two on a thigh rig is alright in my opinion.. slows down my running, but it's convenient and out of the way...

I personally couldn't get used to having pods on my front..

Ditto. I love my 6+1 pack: it was cheap, carries alot of paint and i slapped some suspenders on them to distribute the weight and i can book it when i have to so....

I have two pods on the left side of my back... not that I ever really use them they are more just for the security of having more paint just incase. I am really bad at wasting the paint but yea anyhow two on my back.
