I am taking an anatomy class and we had some extra eyes from the lab. I asked the professor if I could have two of them to make a safety video and he said it was fine with him. So, click on the link below and you can see what will happen to a real eye when it is hit by a paintball.

We went step by step through from the chronographing to measuring out twenty feet (the safe distance for most rec. fields) and went to town.

For those of you who don't know human anatomy very well the way we set the eye on the board was by securing it through the eye muscle, adipose tissue, and cartilage. The eyeball itself was full intact before we shot it.

I tried to be sure that it was serious enough to get some people's attention yet light enough to be at least a little entertaining. Kinda hard to do that sometimes.

Basically I put the eye on a board and video the owner of my local pb store shooting it and you can see that it tears it open and the viscous body and aqeous humor run out (those are the liquids on the inside of your eye). For those who would also like to know what other damage this may cause. The viscous body pushes your retina against the back of your eye and flattens it. So, even if they where able to stitch your eye closed again you would be blind because your eye would not have a working retina. This is probably similar to what happened to 1-eye (if you haven't done so yet, check out his medical file in the forum).
