I run paintball events in my backyard for my friends. We have been doing this for a couple of years. And this time I added to the fun by picking up a couple of master mine paintball mines.

Talk about fun.

It added a whole new element to the game. I know I forgot about the mines, until I was getting close to the flag, and then I was on the lookout for the tripcord...

One guy in our group set off both mines, one right before he captured the flag. But, he was running so fast that the paint blast went behind him and nailed the guy who was following him to the flag. It was located close to the dead zone so all the people there got to watch it happen, which was pretty cool.

Then on the last game, the same guy (who was the medic in this game) was guarding the base, and he tripped his own mine and blew himself up. It was pretty funny because it was towards the end of the game, and there were tons of people in the dead zone (myself included) and we all watched him set it off.



Overall, mines are a blast to play with, they add a degree of surprise that can't be achieved with markers that give the telltale sound of firing just before you get hit.

The mine reacts almost instantly. And after working on mine for a while beforehand and getting the cord set right, I found them to be very consistant. The paint was pretty easy to mix, and I gave a mine to both teams to make it "fair".

I would be a little nervous using one on a public field, as there seems to be so much theivery in paintball. But, that is why I run my own events. So that I can invite guys with character who aren't going to steal stuff.

overall fun rating 4.5 out of 5 stars. The only disadvantage is the setup time. They take some time to set up between games, but it is worth it when they blow up an opponent.

I've seen the prices on these drop quite a bit as well, I picked up one of mine for $26 plus shipping and the other in a bag of supplies for $26 for the whole bag, including a couple of scopes, paint, and air tank off ebay. I've even seen them brand new for $34 on the web.

The paint is easy to mix and works well, and you don't need to fill them all the way to the top, as when you position them on the ground facing out, the top part of the paint will just pour out anyway. Then cover the mine itself with leaves, and it dissapears. (don't cover the area where it sprays out, as this will affect the flow).

I rate things based on the fun factor they bring, and with the master mine, I can't wait to use them again.

I've always just wanted to carry a trip mine on my back for a scenario and set it up deep in enemy territory. Unsure if I was the only one with that fantasy.

I love the mines by Major Paintball. They are by far the best you can get. They're so simple to use and the trigger is nice and sensitive. I highly recommend the Master Mine. I've seen several reviews by people that complained they were too heavy, too big, and the trigger mechanism didn't work well. I have no clue what they're talking about. Just get a pouch that will carry the mine you need, they're not heavy, and the trigger mechanism is simple genious. I have never had a problem with any of mine. They work flawlessly. Yea, I've made copies of all of them that work fine but nothing beats the original. I also see people that don't know what they're doing use them in the wrong way then blame the product for the problem. If you're interested in any of the Major Paintball landmines you might want to get them now. Major Paintball has stopped selling to the public so get them before all the stores, sites, and ebay run out. lol. The Master Mine is designed to have the caps OFF when the mine is set-up. Leaving the caps on can result in only one being blown off or the mine comming apart at the pivot joints. If it blows apart it will snap back together but you may miss your target.

The key to using any landmine is the deployment time. Some pregame preperation can greatly reduce the time it takes to "plant" your mne. Here's some tips for fast deployment of the Master Mine. You need a way to anchor the mine to the ground. Get a long screwdriver with a very slim shaft and paint the handle a dark color like green, brown or black. You'll also need a trip wire. Get a round wooden dowel about 12" long and sharpen one end. Drill a hole in the other end and tie your trip wire to it. The trip wire should be VERY fine black twine. Tie a paper clip to the other end of the string. Make the trip wire about 6 feet long. Now roll the string onto the wooden stake. Now to deploy the mine you just use the screwdriver to anchor it to the ground, hook the paper clip over the trigger and roll off the line and shove the stake into the ground. Then fill the mine with paint and your done. This shouldn't take more than a minute. You can fill the mine ahead of time and close the snap caps but I like to fill it after it has been set. The round trip wire stake allows you to take the any slack out of the line by slowly turning the stake but be careful not to get it too tight or you'll be painted. lol.
