Obviously a mask :panzer: , but I have no need for a pack, since I ref speedball. Even reffing woodsball, I generally only carried what I needed, as the front desk was at most a quarter of a mile away. I also carried a radio, in case of an emergency. Other than that, I carry a squeege for cleaning out rental barrels, as well as personal owned markers, timer, whistle or bull horn, and something to drink for myself. I tend to wear a bit of padding/armor since I get in the middle of people shooting at others to do paint checks. I have a ref jersey as well, that helps to identify me as someone that is not playing. We have paper towels and lens cleaner as well for people to use off field.

Since I tend to play and ref the same day, my outfit doesn't change by much. Replace my operative vest for a bright orange one, throw off that custom mask for one with a reflective lense, swap my spiked beanie for a headband, and make sure I have my radio; that's the routine in a nutshell.

BDU pants (because I can get them dirty), the boots I wear paintballing and a t-shirt under my ref jersey.

I also usually have a pouch and some pod holders on my belt because they're handy to carry squeegees and extra armbands and barrel socks in. I usually borrow one of the fields yellow masks for the day.
Work hard. Play hard.

I carry a very light kit.
Mask (duh)
2 Pod pack w/ two bottles of water (great for washing off hits to the face, or if you bring a straw, hydrate before or after the game and before you are in a no mask area)
a towel (standard size cut in half, clean off yourself / players)
Barrel Swab (everyone always asking, might as well have it)
Desert Camo pants (place 1 half of the towel in the left and right cargo pocket)
Countdown Timer (egg timer until I bought a better one)
Company Ref Jersey
Company Radio
Company Plexiglass Shield (the greatest thing ever invented for a Ref)
I used to think:
"So what if you shoot 15bps, but I only need to hit you with one"
Then I learned how much fun it is to hit someone once every 1/15th of a second!

a whistle

that's about it in the summer a hydration bladder and in the winter some of those pocket warmers just in case I don't get a chance off the field.

I will pay close attention to what field you work. I only hope that I never go there, because to be honest with you, anyone that feels that they need a marker to shoot back at players because they take a shot or five at them, is not a ref that I want to be around. Also, simply my opinion here, save the beers for after you done for the day. Not while you are responsible for my, and others, safety, well being, and having a good time.
