Look at the flatline compared to an old 98 flatline. It's shorter for sure. I own one and the tip extends about 4 inches out from the handle end. This one is about 2 inches shorter it looks. Are they using an X7/A5 flatline with the 98s tip?

Hmm, good job Tippmann.
You've managed to turn the most annoying gun to clean into a decent piece of gear.
No more unscrewing the ASA, no more hunting for the spring to the front sight after it fell out, and from the sound of it, I can just pop off the air line from the valve.

Too bad I only use my Tippmann on the rare occasion my other guns are down, and that I'm using an A-5 (which is shooting slow...I need to look in to that...). I may pick one up so when I have new friends come play, they aren't stuck with a pump (they don't use the A-5, cause it weighs 12 pounds or so with all my additions, and the other guns are electronic, and the newbies always have misfire's with the sensitive triggers).

I'm still waiting for the Low Pressure, Non-Blowback, Center Feed Tippmann though.
My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.

If they make too many changes to the likes of the forgrip, then it will just start to become an A-5.

But I like the 98s. Any price on this yes?

Questions:

- is the end cap still removable for stocks?
- will body shrouds still fit the new 98 without modding?
- why did it take so long for tippmann to come out with a marker like this?

overall, my hopes for this new marker looks promising. best of luck to Tippy.

Based upon what I can see, I think the end cap is still removable and as long as the body shrouds don't interfere with the rail, I don't see why they wouldn't fit. My educated guess (based upon my experiences with permanent mold casting of "pot metal") is that Tippmann was getting toward the end of life for the molds and figured that it would be a good opportunity to update the design.

My guess is yes. Commonizing the parts would simply make economic sense as it reduces the number of different parts that have to be manufactured, inventoried, etc.

There are 101 types of people: those who understand binary, those who don't, and those who just can't count.

Makes sense to me. I will probably get this new 98 just because of the ease of disassembly compared to the older 98's.

pretty boring.
I too was hoping for a lower pressure gun.
Glad I've got a T9 coming.

I have to disagree.. The most annoying gun to clean has to be the SP8

Gotta admit, I never have had to clean one of those.
Heard they are really annoying from a friend that has one.

Glad I don't shoot SP guns :panzer:

Here's some prices.

http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERS...tball-guns-only

It looks to cost $119 for the basic marker without ACT on up to $219 for the ACT Tactical or Pro ACT w/ E-Trigger.

Edit.

In other words the exact same cost as the one it's replacing.

seems pretty fair on pricing, but I'm not really tempted to get rid of my custom pro and get a new one.

I figure they're about same-same in aggravation level.

This change... eh, IDK. might make the 98 easier to clean, which'd be nice... But it's still gonna shoot like a 98.
