Many condolences on your injury. As for how the refs reacted, thats not too surprising. I used to work as a Lifeguard, pool manager, and Red Cross Instructor. Even with training, its amazing how often people panic and forget what the drilled procedure is. Props to you for not going into shock; that woulda been a disaster.

As for sliding, I tend to go with a soccer style slide tackle, though of late I'm a big fan of sliding on my knees, using the heavy duty military style pads.

May your recovery be swift and painless,

i think being in scouts really helped with not going into shock and knowing what to do

and i normally slide on my knees, this one just didn't work, i went down at the wrong angle really

ouchie.

yeah good wishes and all that.

i thought i had something else to add but the laundry just buzzed and killed my train of thought, if it comes back ill repost.

*ding*
ok, this is by far the worst sliding injury story Ive heard, not that graphic in detail but the outcome tops all. I am a little curios as to what type of footwear you had on and if you think that maybe a better boot or other well anything might have helped prevent or lessen the damage. I dont think anything could have made that better but im sure you are about to get majorly educated by the docs in the near future.

i normally play/work at an indoor field, so I was wearing cleats with 0 ankle support. that's another reason I hurt myself, i was used to sliding 10 feet from a 5 foot run

i may get some boots if I start playing more woods, but I think i'll just be careful in the future

BTW the way it broke, i really don't think boots would have helped, they would have probably just made it worse

and the cleats aren't that grippy, they're almos indoor soccer cleats, small, short studs

the bottom looks like this

ooo
oooo
ooooo
ooo

they're about 1/8 of an inch long,

trust me, the break was pretty much inevitable

EDIT: proof that it's a really bad berak, i'm out until april at least (according to the doctor)

That new Phantom is bad luck dude. :ninja:
Yeah this is another reason to practice sliding guys, not only to do it quickly, and get the best cover, but to learn how to do it safely.
Hope you're back up and at 'em soon Not_You!
How long have they said it will take 'till you can be back playing paintball?

Wow man... I was playing yesterday, did the last game in shorts for the heck of it... Sliding across gravely turf in basketball shorts isn't a good idea, but it's kinda fun. I will say, didn't even compare to what you got, sounds like.

Do refs have to be first aid certified? I would think it wouldn't be a bad idea...

no, most of the refs there are very inexperienced, they probably thought any first aid training would drive them away or something

whoot whoot let's here it for a fellow scout

yea it's amazing how calm you stay when you are the one that is injured but you know how to treat it. I was in a terrible snowmobile accident two years ago where I was crossing a highway and was t-boned by a truck. I ended up breaking both of my femurs (but had no other scratches or bruises on my entire body, weird isn't it) and now I have a titanium rod in my right one, but when I was laying there in the ditch waiting for the ambulance, I was calm and telling people what to and what not to do casually, cuz I didn't want to freak them out.

hope a speedy recovery for you
