But i live in the U.S. so nevermind

WOW! SLOW bloody response from from The Honourable Rob Nicholson....

And all he did was pass the buck to the Honourable Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario. Another email has been sent.

At this point I'm thinking the ban is a hoax.

Ok. I finally have a "final" answer......

So paintball markers have been lumped in with imitation firearms and the Ontario government is looking to increase restrictions on them.

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca

Imitation Firearms Regulation Act

Note: 152.4 meters/second = 500.00 feet per second

Regardless I am not happy.

Wow, that sucks guys. That REALLY sucks.

I'm not sure how your government goes about this stuff, but you could try getting a bunch of people together to call/email/mail their legeslators about this.

Mr. Shatner,

While I have been a fan of yours and Star Trek since I was little I'm not writing to you as a fan in that regard. I'm writing to you as a fan of paintball and as a fellow Canadian.

Mr. Shatner, I've been playing since 1987 and for the last few years I've been volunteering as an administrator on a paintball web form. The forum is based in Utah and owned and operated by a Salt Lake City paintball company. Over the years I've grown accustomed to seeing various rumors of paintball being banned in one state or another.

Last year was the first time I've seen or heard such a rumor coming from Canada and of course I was distressed over it. I didn't put much stock in it as it was unconfirmed. My first step to confirmation was to contact my local MP. Several months later I got a response stating the question was forwarded elsewhere.

Today, nearly a full year later, I received a letter from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The short version of the letter is that paintball markers have been lumped in with Imitation Firearms and in Ontario they are discussing legislation to improve regulation of imitation and replica fire arms. This means paintball will be affected as well.

While I can understand the need to regulate imitation firearms I am disappointed that paintball markers have been placed in the same category and am very concerned that should Ontario institute this new legislation the rest of the country won't be far behind.

I am hoping, Mr. Shatner, that you may be able to offer some insight or some suggestions on how to get paintball moved out of the imitation firearms category. I am hoping that as a paintballer you might be able to help spread the word so the Canadian paintball community can save our sport.

Thank you for your time,

I find it kinda curious that it only seems to apply to Ontario, and, in that vein, I doubt anything more then finishing up the restrictions on .43-cal mag-feed markers.

Notice how Mr. Bartolucci seems to emphasis the "some... paintball guns" part. Hopefully that just means MilSim stuff, although I'm sure with the recent use of paintball markers for vandalism it may extend all the way to 98's and such.

Hopefully nobody is stupid enough to think a Cyborg is a real gun... the PGP and Automag, maybe. But, I bet if they did impose more restrictions on their purchase and such, anything already existing would be "grandfather-claused."

This is a rather disturbing. While I do not know if this applies only to Ontario, or to all of Canada, it still angers me how some people are foolish enough to mistake a PAINTBALL marker from a real firearm. I don't know, maybe the huge hulking loader gives it away. Anyways, this has got to stop. If there IS eventually a ban, hopefully Paintball will still be legal at local fields. It may be the end of Outlaw, but at least we can still play our loved sport... right?

If they just make it so they're harder to import, and need a license to buy in Canada, then pretty much all of their problems are solved...

Its Canada wide. The ban mainly deals with RAP4 mag feed markers. This is in part due to the fact that they market them as exact replicas which falls under the replica gun laws.

It has been a long time in coming there have been problems with getting some items into Canada from the US for a while.

There is still a lot of confusion over the entire subject and I am not sure if boarder services even know what is and isn't allowed.

Write Stockwell Day about it.

I may not live in canada, but are tib 8s gonna be classed as 'imitation firearms' or whatever, and therefore be banned. Cos we're having some gun crime problems here in the UK and apparently airguns are starting to have recognition markings and suchlike. So i wonder if tib 8s and other milsim markers are gonna be banned next.
