will the 98C work without the low pressure kit on compressed air? i cant seem to find the answer.

I may not be right however I think you can, I've seen my friend do it with his 98. but i may be wrong.

thanks. my CO2 seems pretty unreliable so i would like to convert. and seeing how the tanks cost 200 or so dollars I dont want to waste 114 more dollars on something i may not need

The answer is not quite so simple as that. Yes, the 98 can run on compressed air with no extra parts or modification. However, it needs to be a high output tank since Tippmanns generally run on 800 psi or so. HPA tanks generally come in high and low pressure outputs so just check on that before you pick one up.

You're not alone in that opinion. I can't think of anything that actually performs better on CO2 than on HPA.

Old-style markers that run on liquid CO2, I guarantee you, will run better on CO2 than HPA .

I think most guns will work with compressed air; CO2 is just too inconsistent and not as practical as compressed air. One thing I will never understand is why people buy an HPA tank, and then spend money on an expansion chamber.

I know this question has been asked before so I just wanted to ask for sure. I thought that to use the compressed air with the Tippmann 98 Custom you had to get the conversion kit and that makes it into a rear cocking system. Is there any way to use compressed air without the kit?

You can use HPA on a 98C without the low pressure kit. However if you want the low pressure kit without the rear cocking I recommend getting a Dark Horizon Titanium hammer. You can also drill holes in your stock hammer to make it lighter.

If you run HPA without the low pressure kit make sure you get a tank that has a high pressure output.

I am new to paintball just bought my first gun so I may ask some stupid Q. Can you use (just for trying) a compressor with the Tippmann 98 custom?

Welcome to the forum feel free to post questions like this with a new thread in sections like "Newbie's Corner" or in more specific sections for questions about air, etc. It tends to annoy some people when you bring back old threads (this is from 2007).

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say compressor, but you can use CO2 tanks and High Pressure Air (HPA) tanks with approximately 800 psi output to fire your marker.
