I bought the freak barrel kit 2 days ago. When i got home i shot it at a target after determining which insert to use. I was using the kit on my a-5. All the paintball where with in about 6 inches from each other. This was shooting from about 30-40 ft. today i took it out to the field that i go to all the time. It performed spectacularly. I was able to put the paintballs right on top of each other from almost where ever i shot. The barrel also seemed to add distance. One time someone was shoting at me and all his paint was bouncing around me or off me with no velocity and i was able to make him dive back into his bunker and my paint was breaking on his bunker. All around this barrel is spectacular. If you're willing to spend the money it's well worth it.

my guess is it added more distance because increased velocity. increased velocity caused from a better paint to bore match so not much extra air escaped around the ball.

It is a decent kit, but there is better out there.

A piece of advice, if you have the rain drop or all american front, is to get the Apex tip. I put the Apex tip on my Freak Kit, and it is just pure awesomeness.

I get the accuracy of the Freak kit, and when I turn on the Apex, I can get the range of a Flatline. Under optimal conditions, I can shoot more accurate than a Flatline at Flatline distances (we actually testd this). Heck, there have been times when I've been able to shoot a few feet further than a Flatline and still get a break.

Well, if you have the rain drop or all american front, you wrap several layers of electrical tape on the very tip of your front. Doing it this way though, you lose the ability to rotate the Apex.

Or, you can buy this: http://www.undergroundmodshop.com/catalog/...49924873cefceb9 , which is the UMS adapter. You can use that, and keep the ability to rotate the tip.

IMHO, if you don't rotate your barrel alot, save your self the $15 and do the electrical tape wrap. It'll prolly take a few wraps to get it nice and snug, but it's well worth it.

Why? I get the accuracy of a high end barrel (Freak Kit) and the range and distance of a Flatline (Apex tip).

Sure, the cost is up there ($125 for Freak Kit, and $80 for the Apex barrel), but it is well worth it.

The purpose of the freak is to fit a ball better thus increasing accuracy, while the apexs purpose is to change the balls trajectory by using a ramp system like the flatline. The apex would defeat the whole porpose of the freak your ball is gonna be controlled by its spin from the apex not from the freak.

I didn't want to create a new topic about this, so I will tack it on to here.

I have the Freak Jr that came with my Ion Max'd. I don't know what took me so long (I've had it for 2 years), but I finally got more of the inserts. I use DXS Bronze frequently. When I used the .691 insert with the DXS (it stopped rolling down the barrel, and would get "stuck" half way in when I did tests with the insert.

I had the same leftover paint from the weekend before, and I hadn't messed with the reg in any way. When I chrono'ed with the new insert, my chrono of about 275 the weekend before went up to a high of 303. I had to turn it down a bit to get to the field limit of 289.

So, I can say firsthand that a good paint to bore match will help you save air. I know that there are people out there that hate the Freak Kit only because Smart Parts make is, but if one doesn't get that, I do recommend that one should get some type of barrel system. I am very happy with mine.
