^ Agreed.

I think the accepted Rule of Thumb is anything Tippmann is pretty much loud. You can soften their "report", but you'll spend more doing it than you might pay just starting with a quieter marker to begin with.

Example: I have both a 98, and a Spyder Compact 2000. While both are considered fairly noisy, and blow-back low-end, the Spyder is significantly quieter (in my experience) than the 98. So, it would be cheaper and easier for me to try to quiet down my Spyder than my 98.

you'd be better off trying to make it louder, so the report from one shot will ring off of other objects and echo... confusing the enemy.

if you want quiet, get an ion. those are very quiet right out the box. i had one and might get one more and turn it into a longbow for that reason.

HAHAHAHAH!!!! i just realized how that could be read!!! boy am i red in the face. :P

no, i had an ion pro, but i sold it to get the $ for my f8. but if i get some spare cash again, i might strongly consider an ion longbow for the ghost flanking aspect of play.

Have you guys ever heard elephants running. there louder than sin... In no way is my 98 louder than elephants. Maby the best answer is the one with the A-5 in it. I voted for the A-5 answer. Yes 98's can be extremely quiet with the right equipment. Making the gun louder is a great idea and the best way to scare noobs.

about as quiet as a two year old w/ mom's pots & pans. Love my A-5 (not any different than the 98), but there's no hiding that sound!

My 98C is pretty loud, not deafening or anything, but it's enough to be problematic. I've done some work to quiet her down, but Vera will aways be my loud, dependable 'accurized marker'. In my experience, A5's are louder than any 98C I've seen. That said, it's not by much, and I'm just tuned in to listen for that stuff.
