Giant Big Game XX - Join the forum members unit May 1st, 2011

Yes, I realize May seems like forever away. But in reality, it will be here before you know it.
This started as I was bouncing ideas with Digital Pirate, and we thought it might be a good idea to gather as many forum members as we could to form an unofficial "Special Ops Forum Unit" (there are no "units" at Giant Big Game, but players can sign up as a group).
Giant Big Game is a one-day event hosted at Splat Tag, near Hudson, WI. It began life way back as a "Minnesota versus Wisconsin" game because it was so close to the state border. It has since evolved into a more or less classic big game, drawing in hundreds of players, and we see players from other states, as well as a number of Canadians turning up.
The game format is pretty straightforward - there are two teams and a number of locations across the field. Every half hour, points are awarded for possession of each of the objectives. Missions are run for extra points, but the bulk of the available points that day will be from taking and holding stuff.
Please note that at this time, the "Special Ops Forum Unit" is unofficial and remains the idea of some of its longtime members. It hasn't been given the official green light, but even if it's all unofficial, it'd be fun.
Feel free to post up here and/or PM with thoughts, questions, etc. I've been at this event for years, and I led the MWA (red team) to victory in 2009 as the then-youngest GBG general on record.
Previous Years Photos (Yes, the more recent ones are almost all taken out in the open, but I assure you that's one small part of the field. The photographers didn't want to wander too far in to the woods or something. Older years have more of the field shown).
Of course, come next spring I wouldn't mind running around taking some field photos ahead of time in the name of "scouting" for the group. Splat Tag is about a 45min-1hr trip for me, not bad at all.

Been too long Ern, need to see you back out there (Okay, I admit it's been a rough year for me too. I'll try to make 2011 better)
Oh, and MWA or GLC? Personally, I'd lean towards the MWA (red) since I've played for them for every year but one (2008), and I was the 2009 general for them. I'd consider switching back over if we had enough players that wanted to.
Kind of a minor detail compared to the rest of the logistics for getting this unit together, but still a thought to keep in mind for recruiting purposes.

Yea, unfortunately its likely to get rougher for me this year. I am planning on moving up north toward the Brainerd area in the coming weeks. I have been seriously itching to get the SS out though!!
Team doesn't matter to me. As long as there are targets for me to shoot at

Now we need to start getting other forum members on board.
If there's anyone on the fence out there, reading this and not sure if they want to make the trip, just shoot me a PM. I can answer the questions you may not want to post (don't worry though, feel free to post them since there are no dumb questions), and help give you a feel for the game.

Darrin chose to move it.
This was discussed quite a bit this fall over on MN Scenario. Even had a vote on timing and everything. Short version is between finals, kids graduating school, parents dealing with said kids, and other life events that tend to always happen right there (not to mention the June GBG rain curse of death* ), enough people wanted to try May (but soon enough to dodge early finals).
I like it, because it gives more space between now and OK D-Day.
* For those of you who recall the really rainy OK D-Day 2008 (the one where Friday's events got canned over it), that was GBG 2009 weather, but with 40s instead of 80s-100s. And we played it.

But it was pretty cold in the headquarters too, with this whole not getting to leave the immediate area.
Though I still got to use a pistol and take a few eliminations
