After being in and out of paintball over the past couple of years [I think I only played 2-3 recball games, OK DDay '06 & '07 and Elite Weekend '07 in the past few years] along with getting married, changing jobs, moving out - the works, I haven't been as active in the paintball community or here on the SpecialOps Forums, as I would like. But now that the dust of my personal life has settled and after developing some connections locally here in South Texas, I'm looking at bringing an old idea back from the grave.

Texas Division is a baby of mine ever since SpecialOps invented the Brigade almost 5 years ago. What I wanted was a system that worked similarly to the SpecialOps Brigade, but much more localized. To create a network of local teams and develop relationships with people regionally and statewide in order to encourage our flavor of the game we love so much - paintball. I want it to be easier to get involved in Woodsball, Scenario, and Recball. Where if your friends aren't into it, you can find Texas Division and hook up with players in your area and still have a good time without the attitude that can be found at some Speedball fields and players.

Today, I played a game and I only knew about half the people present. There were maybe 20 of us all together. Some shooting Ions and wearing speedball clothes, some in fatigues shooting 98Cs and a few new guys borrowing guns from other players. The course was built in the host's back yard. A beautiful makeshift speedball course. It was my first time to actually play that type of paintball [as was true for many others in that group] but after getting tagged out a few times, we picked it up and had a positive blast. We had 50 year old dads down to young teenagers all shooting it up on the field. Plenty of yelling but no cussing at the other players and nothing but grins and "good game" when all was said and done. I am fortunate to have friends that know other friends that have land and the like but not everyone is in such a good position. What we need is a good way to get people in my area on that field [and other local fields] having a blast right along with us.

In order to do this, Texas Division is going to need active leaders that are interested in fostering woodsball growth in their own backyard. Newbies, walk-ons, and strangers turning into good players who love the sport. Texas is a huge state with a lot of ground to cover. There are a lot of teams and fields already established but there are tons of players out there just playing with the people they know. It's hard to get connected without spending a lot of time and energy researching local stores, fields, and teams and hoping you bump into other honorable woodsball players out there or being lucky enough to be part of the "in-crowd" by default.

Here's the goal: I want players to be able to come to the Forums here or bump into our players on the fields and get connected with people in their areas. If you're up north on the Red River, you might not know about the beautiful course set up in Mt. Pleasant that Viper paintball runs just a few hours drive from almost anywhere along the Oklahoma/Arkansas border. There are good players having good games all across the state and other players nearby could get hooked up with those good games and make paintball a life-long activity instead of something they only do in highschool and then get burned out by bad attitudes and the wrong crowd.

I'm still thinking about all the organizational kinks and just how detailed I want to make this system but, in the end, it's about helping us all get connected and have a good time together, instead of alone.

What you can do to help:

1. List good fields in your area. If the refs are fair and it's a great place to play - let us know about it.
2. Volunteer to lead up local games or Texas Division chapters.
3. Volunteer to let other players borrow your gear at games. Some people are willing to play but don't have the cash to make the long term commitment to paintball. Loan out your stuff for a game or two and those new players can get hooked. The more the merrier.
4. If you have any ideas, throw them out here. The worst I can do is say no. I usually don't bite.

After this baby gets off the ground and we get some involvement, we might have a need for T-Shirts or Team Patches and I will post a new official Texas Division thread once we get a little organization and we're ready to start helping people.

Let's do this.

My name is Andrew "ShadoAngel" Hein and I live in San Antonio, less than 5 minutes from 281 & 1604. I'm willing to get the ball rolling in the San Antonio/Hill Country area and hook up with other players playing nearby. I don't know a whole lot about the local fields and which ones are still open [Paintball Knights, Krossfire, Lonestar, & Predator. Realm/Maximum in San Marcos.] but I'm up for playing anywhere - real fields and backyards although I admit my few dozen games over the past 7 years or so has been in backyards and country sides. If you're new to the game or just tired of play at the same place with the same people, drop me a line and I'll see if we can't get hooked up and play some ball.

You can PM me here, send me an email at shadoangel@gmail.com or call me at 210-838-2992 [I usually don't answer numbers I don't recognize and my service can get spotty at work. Leave me a voicemail with your contact info and I'll get back to you.]

Hey, I like the sound of this. I've been hosting paintball games in Nevada,Tx for 5 years. The field is called "The Devil's Playground" and it's located at the dead end of CR 1040 in Nevada,Tx which is North East of Dallas. I guess you would call my field a "private" field. We have tables in the staging area, colored velcro armbands, a list of game and safety rules, and we do chrono all markers. We are very organized. A few friends and I have worked VERY hard to make our "field" a great place to play. I don't charge anybody a dime to play at my field. Paintball cost enough as it is. lol. I 'm always recruiting more players and trying to introduce more non-players to the sport. I gladly loan out gear to anybody that needs it.

I actually grew up in Paris, TX and still have friends there. Are you playing this upcoming Saturday? I am going to Dallas to visit family for Thanksgiving and then to Paris to catch up with old friends. If we bring our gear and my friends bring theirs, I can see us showing up with 4-6 extra people.

See what I mean? All we need is a little organization and *bam* - it's like magic. If we can get more awareness of your field and your players out there when new players join up they'll be able to have a great place to play that they might not have been able to find out about otherwise.

Sweet, I sent you a PM. I'll make sure we'll have enough players to make a day of it. The "field" is small so as long as 8 or more people show up it's great. That should be no prob. You'll love our field. Everybody is VERY nice and great sportsmen. later.

Nice to see Texas throwing out ideas for more good games and a chance for players to meet and play together. Do a few searches on this forum and you'll see a lot of posts from folks around the Houston/Bay Town/Orange area...we all try to get together and play out at a great "backyard" field run by a local team captain, "Woodrow" of "DWA". Likewise "Robert Duhon" will be here in a minute or two, if you haven't had the opportunity to meet him yet, he is the head honcho of "BPA" and leader of "Team Foxtrot" a home team out at tacticalpaintball.

I'll be honest, I've seen this Texas Division try to get off the ground in the past...a couple times actually, and it almost gets there, and I hope that this current attempt has what it takes. If people actually utilize the game finder and the fourms, there is no reason folks can't hook up, and I for one would love to help out where I can. I'm a team captain of a Houston local team, "Texas OPFOR", and we are just one of many woodsball and scenario teams in this neck of the woods.

Players aren't the problem...decent fields is what we are up against here. I'm sure y'all have heard of Tactical Paintball out at Harwood...awesome field, but a bit of a drive for a small pickup game here in Houston. Likewise Vipers field up in Mt. Pleasant...nice place I hear, but too far to drive for an afternoon game and make it back for church. The Houston Woodsball scene needs fields...anyone got a few acres they wouldn't mind us all playing in? Like 90+? ;)

So as a fellow Texas player, nice to hear about Texans getting organized, and be sure to post and email/PM ideas folks.

Good to hear xscout. Tactical is about halfway between here in San An and you in Houston, perhaps we could meet up sometime. I need to talk to some local players here and get a feel for the local fields, but from what I've heard they aren't that great.

Maybe starting & supporting local fields is the best way to grow a grassroots effort like this - using Texas Division endorsed fields as bases of contact.

im sure i have run into you somewhere out a tactical, Xscout. if not, then well that is something strange. even for us here in SA Tactical is still a good hour out. as far as local SA fields, i think Knights is the only one still running. then there is predator and maximum, but there like 30 min out of SA.

Hey Plazmaburn, yeah...I think we met at the Tet Offensive game a couple months back. I'll tell you man, woodsball is hurting here in Houston. There are fields that have woods fields, but convincing the refs to go out there can be a chore, especially with the quick turn around on speedball/airball games and the ease of reffing those games (ie standing around talking to other refs).

#1pball just took a serious credibility hit with recent changes in management, so we'll see how that shakes out.
SGOT has cool fields, but large games are ridiculously understaffed and without any rules...well, published rules anyway.
Zonenorth got hit by Ike pretty badly, so that's still a work in progress.

Thats just off the top of my head, as there are more out here, but they are more rec/speedball.
I'd sure like to be wrong if anyone has a field to add to my partial list.
Tough economic times, so I understand fields focusing on where they are making money, but playing outlaw has it's own headaches as well.

I'll swing by your guys tent at BHD and say howdy, I'm skipping Stalingrad.

Hello all,

As Xscout so nicley put it i will be here shortly! Well I am Robert Duhon Leader of BPA and Team Foxtrot! We are a houston based Woodsball/Scenario Team!
We are a home team at tactical.

Tactical is the best field in Texas for the people near houston and San antonio. Viper is a great field as well but it is along way from here. I would attend viper games more if they did a Saturday go home sunday type game like tactical does.

This idea has been something that has been on my mind so bud Count me and Team Foxtrot in. We will assist you. now with that being said I will tell you now I will get the word out rather Rapidly. Faster than most anyone else.
