Few spoilers if you haven't read the graphic novel or are just waiting to see the movie

Well this was said awhile ago but I'll post it here anyway...there will be no squid/alien to blow up new york. They said the explanation would require too much more time to explain it and take the focus off the characters. Which I really don't get because the only background from the graphic novel is Adrian explaining his plan...

Thought it was because one of the production companies pulled funds, so they had to rule out an "expensive" part??

Either way...it is crappy

Well something is gonna do something similar that "closer ties into the characters" I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of funding, the reasons they say are crap, there is hardly any background on it in the book I don't see how it takes away the focus from the characters.

Easy. People not familiar with the graphic novel will be confused by it and think it's the main conflict of the movie.

They have to have a huge catastrophic event caused by Adrian at the end, or the end won't make sense...

yes, at least a catastrophe. but the point of the "alien" was to make everyone think there were aliens, which would make earthly disputes insignificant.

Which is why this makes no sense at all really. God I hate when movies butcher things.

I want to know WHAT is going to cause the explosion. Maybe a different timeline? Maybe it's still "aliens" but of a different sort. Though I do agree that not having the real "alien" would be somewhat off due to what it was suppossed to represent.

Well, this bit is the climax of the book, and without it, not much makes sense.

Then couldn't the people reading the graphic novel still mistake it for that?

I'm still gonna spend the $15.00 to see it in the IMAX soo...;)

Well it has to be Adrian with the plan, the trailers clearly showing Doc Manhattan busting through his fortress after he was zapped with the laser and re-recreated himself and Nite Owl yelling out in the antarctic after they found out what happened.

I honestly think that in order to do this comic justice, you'd have to do a mini series. I kinda wish that were the plan... either that or a LONG director's cut when it's released.
