I think free meals and coffee is fine, a lot of late nite diners offer free coffee to cops because they're worried about robberies and other indesirable things associated with being a late nite diner.

Car washes are also fine. You have to draw a line somewhere though, to make sure should any problems arise with a business, the cops will be objective. Where this line is, I don't know. That's why I am not the one on a council who decides. But there needs to be limits, just like everything else.

It's never been a problem anywhere where I live though

Free? No, I don't think free would be fair.

Government subsidized? Yes, that would be perfectly fine. I do not think businesses should have to provide free services to anyone. That said, I do know police perform a very important job, and if adding a few dollars on to my taxes would provide them with free lunches, drinks, etc, so they can perform their job better, then by all means that should be done.

I know. I would just rather see that system in place so police wouldn't have to pay for it regardless. For a job like that I would rather see the community as a whole take the burden and say thank you for their dangerous career, then a select few businesses.

However, if they want to provide their services or products free of charge as a way to say thank you, then I think that is a very respectable idea and they are more then welcome to do so. I won't go out and encourage doing so, but I won't stop them from doing so either.

If they want something, and a business is willing to provide it, I'm all for it. As long as it's not taken as a bribe. Coffee, donuts, food, candy, nothing harmless. No liquor or money. Everything else is fine by me.

I know at my job, we aren't required to give the police discount (50 % off purchase) but we do to any working police officer. It's just a way to, I guess, keep the cops as our friends.

Thank you very much guys. I myself would not except a gratuity that is because I have never liked getting anything for free. Most officers dothat also even if the check never come they will leave the moneyon the table and either the waitress/waiter willkeepit as atip or use it to pay for the meal. Your names and careers will go no further than the instructor who is a former FBI agent so if she realy wanted it she could have had it already:). Thanks again God bless.

I don't see a problem with free coffee, free car washes, or even free dry cleaning. It's like the community is helping to keep their law enforcement alert and looking sharp.
