Recently I have been re-reading the books series written by Steven L. Kent I will call the clone series. It follows the life of an outlawed model of clone known as a Liberator. The specific one is Wayson Harris. Any way, throughout the book religion is brought up as not believing that clones have souls. This kind of brought me down when i started to wonder if they would or would not if we were to clone a person. Would they be rejected by religion or society all together because of this? Help me out. this is bringing me down kinda.

Pssst...there are no clones. Just thought I should let you know.

Besides, I don't even belive in "souls". However if I they are real, and I do go to hell, then I go all the way...To Circle 6! While there I will backstab Lucifer and change the entire Book of Revelation..OOOH bet you didn't see that one coming. Neither did John the Baptist.

Wow, you don't know much about cloning, do you?

Assuming souls actually exist, a clone is, biologically, no different at all from a regular person. A clone is simply someone born using the same genetic code as someone else. That's like asking if only one twin has a soul.

Wow the Luxe talks but the new Macdev has a soul? Wait, oh the book, human clones, I get it.

Just playing but i don't think you should get upset about this fictional Wayson Harris guy, he is known as a Liberator, he shouldn't be worried about having a soul or not its cool enough he is the liberator. Wouldn't it be cool if people looked at you and said "hey, thats the Liberator."

Thats not the point. I dont consider myself religious, but human beings are created by God or whatever you believe. Just because it is taken from another human and made does that make it a creation of God. thats what i was asking, I asked the bishop of the local dioceys (however you spell it) and he said because they would be artificial they would not have souls. This struck me as odd which is why i asked for more insight.

I know what a clone is; an exact replica of whatever it is cloned of. Do not insult my intelligence. I'm not the smartest person here, but id rather not have people try to put me down that way. I deal with that at school enough.

I know there are not clones. It was a hypothetical question. Or is it wrong to ask hypothetical questions now?

What about kids that are created by artificial insemination? Would you consider them to have souls? Really, that process is fundamental to cloning, and is the same as cloning, except the DNA comes from two separate people. If cloning of humans was to become possible, it would still never be the same as in the movies. Clones go through all the normal developmental stages. They begin as two cells, they become a zygote, are artificially inseminated into a host womb, carried to term and birthed. You cannot create an adult clone. To do so requires far more technology than cloning alone.

Cloning by current standards is a complicated and unnecessary method of baby-making. Even having the EXACT same DNA does not guarantee the same expression of that DNA, not to mention the variations of experience that play a role. Clones are not exactly like the original. This is because even through the intense amount of scientific influence, life is ultimately uncontrollable. It works in unpredictable ways that even the scientists who run the experiments can't control.

A soul? All living people have a soul. If a clone is alive, then it has a soul.

On the plus side, if they don't have souls they can do anything they wish and will not go to heaven or hell. Not even purgatory. I believe the concept of Free Will is connected to the very basis of having a soul. If the character in question makes decisions that change the world around him, then he has a soul. If he were a soulless automaton he would need a master(person, program, instinct, etc.) to tell him what to do and would not be able to disobey these commands.

Don't even get me started on Free Will in religion :) , self-defeating much?!?
If he rips my arms off, I'll kick him to death.
If he rips my legs off, I'll bite him to death.
If he rips my head off, I'll stare him to death.
And if he gouges my eyes out, I'll curse him from beyond the grave.

The concept as a whole is, "there's right and wrong, but God's hands-off to a point, so you get to choose what you do and accept whatever consequences result."

Moving on to the original question...

Yes, a clone would have a soul. They would have a mind, will, and emotions, same as anyone else. They would be self-aware, just like anyone else.

It's no different than identical twins - they're an example of natural clones.

A soul... What do you perceive as a soul?

There really are two sides to this. The religious soul side and the medical "this is what gives you a personality" soul side.

Medically, they would be the same and have a "soul" of there own.
Religiously, well, I guess it comes down to who your imaginary friend is and what are his rules on the subject.

I myself am deist, so I DONT care.

I dont quiet understand why any god would give humans a soul, but not other animals, why are they not allowed to go to "heaven"
Many animals act a lot like humans, so much so, that they might as well have more of a soul than I do :ghillie:
But if animals are not allowed to have souls, I doubt a clone would(according to such a god).

To put it simply, to answer the question while covering all bases...

Either everything that is alive has a soul.

or

Everything that is alive does not have a soul.

You choose which one. Depending on your beliefs, there is no wrong answer.
