I'm just curious how big are you guys necks. My group just bought the Iasus NT2 throat mics and they are non-adjustable and made for a 15"-17" neck. Now I'm looking for a way to mod this thing to fit some of us that have much larger necks. Any ideas?

wow.. that's big.. my neck is 17" and the transducers sit just to the side of my trachea comfortably.. I'm sure that you can modify them for larger necks, just turn them slightly offset so that at least one transducer sits in the correct location.

I'm going to try that. My only other alternative will be to try to modify the mic into seperate pieces that are attached to an elastic strap with some velcro for removal.

Can you post a pic or a link to where you got it so I can look at it?

Glad I could help Sartek :o
ON the bigger neck issue, mine is larger and I just put one transducer in place (like was mentioned earlier) and it works fine :) Now I just have to get me my new radios, since my cobras are crapping out

I got to play with mine for a little bit yesterday, it seems to work great! Definately better than the Firefox paintball edition. It'll get a more thorough trial next weekend when I go to Texas for a 3 day scenario game.

Is there an advantage to using acoustic tubing over a standard ear plug/hook?

I ordered one of these as well. We'll see how it works.

BTW - Here's Cobalt they look real nice. Nice big PTT too!

Here's the Iasus products.

And here are two locations to buy them Clearer Comunications and Blue Kangaroo

snake 13.. the acoustic tubing allows for a smaller profile, fits more comfortably over long periods, and allows for clearer audio pickup.

In-ear headsets are mostly designed the same. same size, same shape. the problem is that with how it sits in your ear, not everyone's ears are the same size or shape and the earpieces either dont fit at all, wont stay in place, or are painful to wear.

the other downside is that you have speaker right there at your ear, and depending on the wiring going into the speaker, it may be hard to understand until you turn up the volume, and then everyone aroudn you hears when the darn call button is pressed.

with an acoustic tube earpiece, a piezo speaker is used which is generally slightly higher pitched, but has smaller size and a higher fequency response range. the sound is transmitted through a vinyl tubing which amplifies it (like blowing in one end of a trumpet) and the sound is then put directly into the ear. a soft silicone 'mushroom' is generally on the end of the tubing, and since the silicone is very thin and flexible, it fits more ear sizes and shapes, and is less irritating to wear. one of the properties of the mushroom shaped earpiece is that it also helps cancel outside noise from getting to the ear with the earpiece in.
