I did enjoy the movie, but it seriously under-shot my expectations of what the movie was going to do/portray.

It didn't follow real mythology either ha, obvious enough. I thought there would be more fighting, larger scale battles, and the kraken was completely anti-climactic. i don't really have a favorite part cause I wasn't totally blow away by any one part.

Thoughts?

did I die for a second there?...

Not surprising being that the original was this way but only with crappy stop motion animation mixed with terrible acting. And I don't think the mythology was supposed to be correct. If I remember correctly the Kraken didn't have anything to do with Greek gods...

Havnt seen the new one yet, but I cant imagine its any cheesier than the original. I'l just wait till its out on DVD - although my daughter might see it this weekend.

ok, most of the acting wasnt so hot...but I have to defend the effects. Crappy as they seem now, the effects from the original movie were supereb in their day, and were near the top of the stop-motion animation style. Believe me, it seemed impressive in 1980.

Never saw the original. Don't really plan on it. The trailers for movies these days really hype up movies in weird ways. i see a good trailer, I think the movie is going to be good. Well. opposite happens. I see a bad trailer, say, for "She's out of my league." Guess what? Hysterical movie. Blows my mind.

The effects in the new COTT were pretty good. I can appreciate that, and it's neat that, even though they didn't follow real mythology, they used one creature to get to or defeat the next. acting was not entertaining either. Too bad for Liam Neeson. Go from Taken to COTT. i like the guy.

did I die for a second there?...

Correct - the Kraken is from Scandinavian mythology.

There is a difference between a movie that trailers well, and a movie that is well, a good movie. Not saying one cant be both, but this is how it seems to me.

I couldn't help me self thinking several times during the movie....."damn this feels like Lord of the Rings". Also, I wasn't expecting the way they veered from the original script.

I cracked up when I saw Bobo, I was like :D "It's BOBO!!!" :D .......then was supremely disappointed when they left him behind :(

It just isn't COTT without Bubo. Sorry, but it is not even worth holding the same name as the 1981 classic.

Ok then...I thought the new version was very dissapointing. That's really all I'm gunna say. All the important action scenes, with the exception of Medusa's, were short, anti-climatic and rushed. Like seriously,
Spoiler
Then Hades shows up. Epic battle time right? Nope. Here's pretty much how it went.

Spoiler

Time Span: 45 seconds to a minute to defeat the main antagonist.

I will admit though, I liked the Krakken alot better in this one, thought the stick people were cool, and was very glad they left out the robot owl. And in all honesty, after watching the original today, I'll admit I like the one better. I know how great the effects were for the time and all, butreally, I did not like the old one at all.

really,
serisouly really.

have you guys watched the orginal recently. TCM had it on late last week in favor of the remake and i was like "Sweet the best kick ass stop motion action epic of all time"
so BAM the movie starts, and I watch in all excitement then the stuff starts happening and I was like "Yeah man this is so super Doorbells cool, this is the stuff that LOTR was trying to live up too."

then i realised, uh no, its all, quick and simple.

medusa, hide behind pillar wait patiently the pop goes the bad hair day.

fight in the swamp, "ARGHGT I GOT MY SWORD AND ABOUT TO DO..... end scene" they dont even show you. You have no real clue for like 5 minutes while they go over some riddle that woes the cursed princess then they show that the goat dude just lost his hand.

the fates, 'A TITAN VS A TITAN' yeah I screamed that at work the next day just to leave my co-workers as confused as the sudden excitment of that line

Big Scorps and double headed dog, ok those did well at filling the time and for the most part and given the tech at the time were well done and did involve the actors

the kraken, not even a squid, eel, shark, or other sea creature. Really it was an updated version of the FX dudes early work about a monster from Venus that fought an elephant and all it was "Im a kraken grrr.... gasp a snake head now im stone and falling apart"

Bobo, ok if the world is full of krakens, medusa, blind witches that cook live human hands and we all go to war in a toga then yes I do insist on having the metal owl with no sense of balance and makes lots of clicking sounds. But i swear to one of the gods the second i get a decent breastplate even if its made of cardboard that bird is totally expendable and will be the first one to do down any and all dark dungeon hallways.

Now i should say that i havent seen the new one yet but im going to and when i do it will be all that I expect it to be, and updated version of a fictional-myth based movie that made me stand on a playground slide and hold a frisbee while screaming take that kraken and I am Lionoe, thunder, thunder, thunderkats, HOOOE!!!

really im just saying that you cant really be disapointed in this remake since the first gave us so very little in terms of visual fill in the blanks

Sounds like Ghost Rider...
