Hey all,

I've got a Spyder TL-R atm, and I'm looking to buy a new marker. I think I've narrowed it down to either the Smart Parts Ion or the SP1. I'm not sure which is better, cause they both seem the same, pretty much. The only thing limiting me is price. My budget is pretty much < $250, and I want to be able to buy a decent barrel and HPA tank. I guess the question I'm asking is what makes the SP1 worth more money than the Ion?

TIA

The SP1 has a CO2 and HPA setting on the board. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same thing with the exception that the SP1 is the Ion's MilSim counterpart.

You can MilSim an Ion with a deadly winds body though...I don't know if they are bolt-out-back compatible to an Ion/Ion XE though [I doubt it].

Hrm....I thought the DW was the non-BOB one of the 3 kits available (but forget the others' names...lol). I could be wrong...

The sp8 has been DC'd and they are only selling them to get rid of the stock.

Between the two, I like the sp-1 from a pure maintanance perspective, easier to take apart and clean/lube (Ion isnt terrible, just easy to strip fittings), plus I like how the sp-1 feels in my hands MUCH better than an ion (for woodsball), but that last part is just my personal preference.

If your buying used, you can get a used ion for around 100.00 and a sp-1 will run you about 150.00

I own an SP-1 i got it for 125 used on craigslist.org :eck: not a bad price and if you want HPA, 90 will get you good used tank and about 30 or so for a barrel so around 245 for it.

I've never seen an ION my self but i can tell you i would not trad my SP-1 for anything, I'm very happy with it, it feel natural in your hand and very light weight, and you can really trick it out if you wanted but it doesn't like CO2 and the stock barrel sucks, and you want to get an electronic hopper for it (duh) an eggy 2or3 hopper looks awesome on it but whatever works.

Now I'm not going to tell you what you should or shouldn't get but i will tell you that you will not regret an SP-1.

Wow I am suprised no one did their home work. The reason why the Ion is a much better marker is the break beam vision. Nothing to take away from the SP-1 in any regards but I prefer the break beam vision eyes over a the SP-1's Low Force Bolt plus you get a faster rate of fire. Ion's 17 bps vs. 11bps for the SP-1 right out of the box. The Ion is lighter too. Who says you can't mil-sim your Ion for woodsball???

Ions are notorious for breaking, and low quality. The SP-1 is water proof, and can be upgraded to shoot just as fast as an Ion. Besides ROF caps are becoming all the rage. I'd go with the SP-1. I had an Ion, yea it was a good gun, but the SP-1 seems to have a lot more potential.

I would take an SP-1. Eyes aren't that big of a deal. It is capped at 11bps (fast enough unless you suck hardcore) and most even $50 agitated loaders will easily do 11bps.

As for whoever said SP-1s not liking co2, that's not right. My cousin's SP-1 is probably the nicest co2-shooting marker I've ever shot, besides my Classic Mag.
