I am looking at eventually upgrading from my tippy, and two markers have caught my eye. Both of them require minimal modification for woods play out of the box, and have good reviews. BT TM-7 Vs. Smart Parts SP-8. I know both would probably need barrel upgrades, electric loaders, and possibly triggers, but other than that, please give me your opinions. If budget becomes problematic, I may go to an A5 w/egrip. I am basically looking at a marker with minimal modding to make it good for woods play, durable, can lay down good suppressive fire in a fix, is not problematic to repair, and preferably under $400.

unless you're crazy strict about wanting your marker to look milsim, I'd go with one of the "speedball" markers. They're smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable, and just better in general. Though out of your two choices, I'd go with the TM7.

Of those two, I would say TM7.

However, the SP1 may be a better choice yet.

I don't like the tear down on the SP8 at all. That, and the shell is prone to breaking.

The TM7 is a dream when it works and a forum filtered word when it doesn't. The new ones should have the quirks worked out of them by now though. It also takes autococker barrels, which means it'll be easy as can be to find any barrel you're looking for.

The SP1 has been around longer (and thus has less quirks left from 1st gen markers), plus it's smaller, cheaper, and simpler for tear-down than either the TM7 or SP8.

TM7 is the best of the two. But if you cant get a TM7 or a sp8 get a sp1 not a a5.

Thanks for the fast, helpful replies, I've made my decision. If I upgrade, I will probably get an SP-1, if I can't afford a TM-7.

Sp8's are the most cumbersome markers on the market imo. They don't balance well at all. Go for the TM7, like those have said before me it has mini internals and takes autococker barrels.

agreed the SP8 may look appealing somehow through pics but when you hold it or see it in person it hits you. Its an ion in a very cheap plastic body.

Aside from the terrible looks IMO, it performs like an ion so steer away from that.

Id go with a TM-7 infact I will as soon as I get the funds. They have the same internal system as the invert mini and is slightly lighter I think due to the composite plastic body.

I think I'll stick with my modded 98 for woods play, I'm considering joining a high school speedball team, check my new thread to vote.
