A few of us were trying to see how fast you could launch a paintball at a range with a chrony. We found that no matter what marker we used ( intimidator, t9, tippman) we couldn't get a clear shot at anything over 350 fps. The balls just exploded in the barrels above that rate.

Actually, I have had my P68 shoot consistently at about 430fps. Not that I endorse this action, but it was just me and the field owner seeing what we could do. No one else was there.

And dude, chrono all the markers. I would refuse to play if you do it any other way.

Yeah, I cranked my Fusion up one day before we started.
Got it rolling at 400fps with a +/- 5, just as accurate as at 300.

Back when I got back into paintball (4 years ago), we didn't have a chrono.
Granted, I had been playing for a few years before and had gotten the eye for what was close to 300, what was under, and what was over.
So I'd tune my gun in to "300" and then sight tune everyone else. We never had a problem with anyone taking a hit that felt hot.

But I don't recommend doing that. But an X-Radar hand held Chrono. They're like, $70.
Have some other people pitch in. They'll be using it too.
My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.
We put our glass to the sky and lift up. And live tonight 'cause you can't take it with ya. So raise a pint for the people that aren't with us. And live tonight 'cause you can't take it with ya...

When I first put a new spring in my MR3 I chrono'd at 380 fps, didn't break any balls. I know i could push 400 fps.

May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't!

A Chrono costs a lot less than a concussion or an imploded eyeball or the pain meds you will have to take after the person you shot at 350 fps finishes breaking you in two. I have been hit at over 350 from 25 feet away. Puzumas picture is very accurate.

I have a cousin who got hit by a paintball from a gun that was "cranked all the way" because "it improves accuracy" (that was sarcasm for those who didn't catch it) The scar on her arm puts Puzumas picture to shame. She did not have skin over a spot with a one and a half inch circumference and in the center of the spot the shards had flayed down into the muscle a bit. She still has the scar and although she is proud of it the rest of us that played that day are not. We still double check that kids gun every time we play now. He still comes every once in a while with it turned up above 350 fps. You would think that he would grow a clue but he doesn't.

Some people just don't think logically and those of us that do need to enforce the rules. Paintballs going over 300 fps hurt like hell! I know! Sadly I was hit by several from close range before we got a Chrono. Since getting our Chrono we have never had a severe paintball injury, even from close range. Our entire outlaw group will confess that it is the best paintball related purchase we have made.

Safety over all else!

at really high velocities the accuracy plummets and the balls go all over the place [i have seen balls go as extreme as a 90 degree turn in flight]...people like that are stupid and shouldn't be playing paintball to begin with
