I belong to a Marine Corps Reserve Artillery unit. My unit, Mike Brty, was deployed (they just got back) and had marines from Hotel btry augmenting us. Those of us between the 2 units who were stateside combined to go shoot at Ft Bragg Nc. I took some video clips of us shooting and made a video out of it. For any one that is interested here it is. If you want to know more about Marine Corps arty and even Tanks in the corps as I was a tanker on the M1A1, reply or send me a PM.

"Hi there soldier, what's your name?'

"MY NAME'S BOB FARBER!!!"

"Tell us what you do for the military, Bob"

"I'M IN ARTILLERY!!!"

"Well what would you like to hear?"

"ANYTHING!!! JUST PLAY IT LOUD OKAY?!!"

it has been awhile since I saw that movie, I did though get to meet Robin Williams when I was deployed to Africa. He came over with a USO tour.

That is kind of hard to do since we were shooting the round over 3 miles away if not farther. We were basically just shooting and blowing up dirt.

That was pretty cool , I was actually thinking of joining a Reserve artillery unit when I go to college. In Canada they will pay for half your tuition for joining!

Is there as much math involved as I think there is going be? that is actually not a problem ,I just wanna do a little math and blow some ..dirt up

I'm not an expert but I think there is a fare amount of math envoled in artillery. But I think most of the math is done by the spotter, or the person in charge. But like I said i'm not an expert.

Also Fireman, i'm going to join the marine corp and I was just wondering if you still need 15 college credits to join if you only have a GED?

The FDC (fire Direction center) is where the spotters or Foward observers call the fire mission to and they have computers that figure up the numbers and and what round with what fuse for us to send downrange.

You would need talk to a recruiter about the 15 college credits but last I knew, if you had that around that many your ged would not matter anymore and they would take you, but don't quote me on that.

When you talk to your recruiter he has a list of all the fields available. DO NOT go open contract. If the recruiter even mentions it dont do it. you will end up in some field that you do not like. you pick what you want to do before you sign and make sure it is in the contract. THe marines still can change your field if they really need to but they probably won't. they only real way to get the job you want is to find a reserve unit that has the field and join that unit in the field you want to be in. the only issue with that is there has to be a unit around that has the field you want and they have to have openings in that unit for you to join. If you want to go active though and want a particular field you can join as a reservist and when you get to your mos school tell the instructors that you want to be active and they can switch you to over.
