The biggest problem commercial paintball fields have is the fact that you can play paintball just about anywhere. Because of this there are "private" free fields EVERYWHERE. I host the same type of field. Bring your own gear and paint and play all day for free. Paintball cost enough before you even get to the field. So alot of people come to the same conclusion," Why would I pay to play at a commercial field when I can start my own field in the woods behind my house". Because of this the commercial fields have to make thier money off the players that DO show up at thier field. If they had more customers thier prices wouldn't be so high and they wouldn't be FPO.
According to this theory, the commercial fields would be far better off to try to establish a system that reduces the cost to begin with, to lure in those outlaw players. As it stands, in this scenario, the commercial fields are in a downward spiral, especially considering the current economy.
Things are expensive enough, but adding the costs that they do, they drive away players, thus making their costs go up, and driving away more players. This can only end badly.
I can understand FPO for the reasons some have listed, especially the insurance and safety reasons. The thing is, I have no problem paying for paint. Or CO2. I do have a problem justifying a day of playing that costs me $50-$60 at a commercial field when I can play outlaw for $20-$30. Commercial fields are just not competitive. I'd go to a field and buy their paint if they'd let me pay. But requiring me to pay an entry fee, on top of overpriced paint? I can't justify it. Not for rec play.
I do it without question for a larger scenario. I expect more from a scenario. I get more from a scenario. I plan for a scenario.
