I've never had any Apply problems. I'm still rockin' my iPod 5G. I know other people that run them as old as 3G. I've never had battery issues, and I've left my iPod in my car overnight multiple times in subzero weather. The thing still takes a charge like a champ.

As with most Apple products though, the 2G or 3G version of the iPad is going to be leaps and bounds better than this one. I think I'll hold out until then.

I just see it as apples answer to netbooks. Like I said here (or somewhere else) a lot of people lug around laptops just for internet and a lot of people want to get more out of their iTouch. I think this is right in between and will be very practical. It may not be a portable desktop, but I think it'll fill its role.

They've had these out for years. They're called Tablet PCs.

Except a tablet PC has a real OS, can run actual Software, and for most intents and purposes, is a real computer instead of a big ass iPhone.

The only way I'd have one is if it was given to me.

Then I'd pawn it off.

My Mac stuff has been as reliable as my PC stuff. Frankly I'd have to call it even in that arena.

The one advantage I'd give to Mac stuff is that they make all their own stuff. So everything is much more compatible with the rest. For example, I can go into pages and create a document, and then I can pull any picture I want right into it. It is especially easy to do from iPhoto. And if that was all, it would be a wash with Windows. But then I can pull my podcasts from iTunes into there. I can pull my movies from iMovie in there. I can pull the songs I've created myself from Garageband in there.

Do that with Word. Other Windows software? Sure. But find me ONE COMPANY that makes it all so that it automatically works together.....and then sell it WITH the computer.

Oh, here's another little gem. Can you take your powerpoint slides and export them as pictures? If so, do you need something made by more than one company? :eck:

Is Mac better than PC? Nope. Certainly not. So much more can be done with PCs than Macs. But for today's average user, I'd say a Mac has so much greater value than a PC. The software it too easy to use. It costs more, but it is worth it.

And here's where y'all disagree with me. That's ok. But the fact that you're reading this forum online proves already that you are far more computer literate than the majority. If I had to teach my 80 YO grandmother to use a computer.....guess which one I'd pick?

EDIT: Oh and the iPad? Uhhhh...I dunno. Seems like a lame version of a fantastic idea. They should have at least added a d to the name (iPadd) It would have seemed more Star Trekkie. As it is, the iBloodAbsorber is a terrible nom de guerre. FAIL.

This.

Also I've had PC's all my life until recently when my dad switched to Mac. To be honest I like the OS better, but you can do a lot more inside a PC than a Mac. That said, I'd still choose Mac. Once I can use this instead of my Macbook and Wacom tablet, THEN I'll buy it. For now, I'll be just fine.

If they got it to run Snow Leopard, people would buy it for twice the price. Just carry around a bluetooth keyboard if you wish, and a case that works as a stand, and bam, you have a notebook computer.

I love my iPhone 3GS. It's a great device and I use it all the time. The thing with the iPad is that it's only thing it can really do better than the iPhone is display more on it's display. Otherwise, it's the same damn thing pretty much. We might see some nice iPad only apps, but there are a lot more programs that work with OS X than the iPad specifically.

I love my iPhone because it goes in my pocket and I take it everywhere. With an iPad I would need a bag to carry it in, and I can't do that now, not in my school, it would probably get stolen or something. I like knowing there isn't anything besides textbooks worth more than $20 in my backpack, so if I leave it around, no worries.

Yes, it needs flash. I don't see why it doesn't. It's not about if you like flash, or if you think it's bad. It's about how many sites and how much content is flash. A lot.

Also, they need to make a conductive stylus so you can draw with it. Your finger just doesn't work that well.

Youre all forgetting the thing that makes it the single biggest waste of something called a computer ever: IT CANT MULTITASK. Wanna write a doc and listen to music? too bad. AIM AND email? you insane?

Also, HP has a touchscreen notebook pc with writing recognition software (as well as a real keyboard) for roughtly the same price.

Its an ok idea. Not revolutionary, and certainly not well executed

This thread is pretty much what I expected. A parade of going "BOO", with a few people going "Cool". Personally, I'm in the "Finally" category. This kinda thing has been long coming. No, tablet PC's are not in the same category as this. This isn't MEANT to be a PC. It's meant to put the internet (and ONLY the internet) in your hand.

Let's face it kids, the internet is the number one reason to have a computer these days. Sure, everyone needs one to make documents, spreadsheets, etc. But all in all, most time spent on the computer is going to be using the internet. Emails, forums, social networking, etc. The iPhone or the Touch can do these things, yes. However, have you ever tried to read SO with those things? The screen is way to small to make it hassle free. You constantly have to move th page, zoom in/out, and the keyboards on those things are so tiny, even a child would have problems using it as well as a normal keyboard.

The iPad(and as for womans hygiene, I think more of adult diapers, but I digress) puts the cool things about the iPhone and Touch, the Apps (cuz those things can be freaking AWESOME, specially if you jailbreak em) and improves the internet function, to really have a gadget built for entertainment. Also what people need to remember, is that this is a first gen product. It will not be perfect, it will be expensive. I remember the very first iPods going for what was it? $400? $500? And they had not even half the functionality of the current Gen. To assume this product is useless because of it's specs is silly, those will only get better. The price will get better too.

The real problem with this is it's made by Apple. Yay having entertainment in a super portable pad. Too bad I'll only be able to do Steve Jobs approved things on it :( . Can't wait for the jailbroken version :)

Also, never had problems with an Apple Product. Had my video for 3 years before its battery finally couldn't hold along enough charge for me to use at school all day. Had my first Touch for a year before I lost it.The Video took so many drops, the combined for probably equaled a good sized bomb, and the touch took some pretty good abuse too.

Actually, music, mail, and safari all run in the background on the iPhone OS once you start them until you restart.
I still think it's useless until Adobe Flash player in allowed in the os. Did anyone notice the misding pluggins dieting the keynote on the NYT website? Yeah, fail.

Like Teddy K said; I just don't see an average person using this. I agree, I mean, the only place it will fit on your person would be a hoody pouch-pocket thingy. They should have, like, an IPad carrier that you strap to your back. THAT would be interesting.

The more prevalent Wifi is, the more popular things like this will become. Right now, this is pretty much only really useful for browsing the internet at wifi hotspots that you don't really wanna lug a laptop into/out of (Starbucks, McD's, etc).
