I'm going to play some outlaw woodsball tomorrow with my friends, and he says they play with their velocity cranked up all the way. I highly doubt they play like this, and if they actually do, I'll just leave if they won't lower it. I wanted to know what would happen if you did crank your velocity all of the way up, wouldn't the ball just explode in the barrel?
Yeah I use an M-16 grip, wanna fight about it?

Best webcomic ever.

It might. The bigger concern is that the fact that the masks that you are using (You are using masks, right? :P) aren't rated beyond 300 fps and if you have the velocity cranked all the way up (and likely exceeding 300fps), you are liable to break a mask and suffer injury.
I WOULD LEAVE IMMEDIATELY IF THAT IS THE CASE!

At 300fps or over you can:
Break lenses
Break Loader Shells
Break Fingers
KO people with Headshots
Increase Barrel Breaks

Of course we're using masks. I'm a safety nazi, and I can't wait until I get my own handheld chrony. What I'll probably do is shoot my phantom at a flat level (it's chrono'd around 270 in the morning) and make them adjust until they match it's arc. I always figured a paintball gun just wouldn't work at an extreme fps, too much pressure going out in one area.

Buy a chrony. It costs about as much as 2 average cases of paint. It's a negligible cost for safety. I have seen 500fps come out of a marker without a barrel break.

That's not a safe way to chrony markers.

I know it's not, but I'd feel more comfortable playing with them chrono'd like that, then with their velocity's cranked up all the way. And I will be getting a chrono at christmas, sooner if I can find a job. Will be the next piece of paintball gear I buy, I know that much.

I would not, actually I WILL NOT, play with anyone that fails to chrono their marker in a safe, appropriate manner. The manner you have described is neither. Frankly, I think that you will be incredibly lucky if no one gets hurt. It's "friends" like yours that give paintball a negative image.

You'd have to have a level to make sure every barrel is level. Even 1 degree off could come up with some very unsafe results. Please don't consider this even kind of safe.

I'd like to point you at this thread: http://forum.specialopspaintball.com/index...howtopic=158509

where this happened:

If your idiots friends other players are willing to crank up the velocity I'd bet they ignore any and all minimum range rules as well as think that over shooting is fine.

I wouldn't bother playing with them.

QFT Puz.
I bought a handheld RADARChron on eBay for like 65 bucks. Best thing I ever bought when I was still playing outlaw woodsball.

Jonas - I think you already know the answer.

Amoungst the other listed reasons.

The balls weren't designed for above 300 fps. Barrel breaks will be common and balls will curve wildly and be inaccurate.

Well...they test masks with ball bearings going faster than 300fps...But your point still stands that its dangerous

^^exactly.
i wouldnt play with them, just because masks can take that kind of stress doesnt mean we should test it.
