I couldn't really see carbon fiber hoppers being worth it over plastic ones. Sure the carbon fiber is stronger, but plastic is strong enough.

Paintball is a sport of overcompensation. Do you really need 30 BPS, $1000 guns, 5 different guns, kevlar cleats, $150 pants and all that? Nope. Do people want it? Yup. And that means they'll make it.

Exactly!

and I understand your concerns Warden, I tend to forget my DW carbon fibur barrel isn't normal CF in that I can clean it with a cloth and not worry about it. hmmm.... maybe I should contact Deadly Wind about this to get their silk fiber CF

also Marauder do you have any links for the realoder B CF shells? I can't find them

I've been looking, since I want them too. They were on Badlands Paintball briefly, but I can't find them now. Although I think they weren't actual CF.

EDIT: Maybe it was the Magna shell that I saw. Canadian Paintball has them up, but I can't find anything else about a CF shell.

in my opion waste of money, carbon fiber is strong and light and thats why we use it to mod cars for speed, now i think it would be a waste of money to buy one or even manufacture one, the plastic hoppers are llight enough and strong enough for the job and also cheap to buy and produce.

yeah, it makes me sad, I'm going to shoot an e-mail to Deadly Wind (one of the most amazing paintball manufacturers ever) and see if they would even consider the idea of making them and how much it would cost to make a run of them...

if it comes to it how many of you would be willing to purchase one of these hopper shells? and which would be your loader style of choice?

to the post above me: seems like you answered your own objections, they would be stronger and lighter than the plastic ones, and isn't your sig dodging the swear filter?

I'm not sure that real carbon fiber masks have ever been made but they have made one's that look real.

yeah it looks like they are coming up with alot of things that look like they are made out of Carbon Fiber, but very few that actually have been made out of Carbon Fiber

no news from Deadly Wind as of yet, I will post as soon as I know something

as for the masks, it would be cool if they were made though I wouldn't suggest it for the e-vents (half because I don't like them) and half because the e-vents were made to promote bounces, and Carbon Fiber is very rigid so you would lose bouncability

yes that was kinda my point, that I was very dissapointed that it was in fact plastic dressed up to look like Carbon Fiber... thought I had said that in my first post...

and if you just like it for the look by all means get the plastic ones, probably be much cheaper than actual Carbon Fiber. I would just prefer to have a single hopper shell that I can use for years, instead of plastic ones that crack and break

Is plastic really that heavy? Are people really that weak. I'm usually amused when people talk about supposed heavy paintball guns but serious what's the point other then looks?

well the lightweight would only be an additional selling point, not that people are weak, but during a week long scenario you might be wishing you could shve some weight off your load somewhere, but thats just me

other than that the advantages have been pretty well stated in the rest of this thread but I'll post them again anyways

1) lighter (as discussed)
2) stronger (stronger than steel)
3) nearly impossible to crack (maybe with some liquid nitrogen)
4) stronger feedneck (no more breaking necks)

really it all boils down to what your personal preference is, I want shells that won't crack, or have the feedneck snap off. a carbon fiber shell would solve both of those problems. Is it perfect? Of course not. but would it be better than the plastic? undoubtably

one potential problem with my design that I hadn't thought of is the thickness of the feedneck would require a clamping feedneck on marker, otherwise it would be too thin and fall of the marker can't really sand down CF

but I still would like one!
