I think that i might just be the youngest paintball ref in the history of forever. i just started reffing some outlaw games and i absolutly love it. i would like to do it at my field, but cannot do to the fact that i am two years too young to get a job. i figured that i would be able to continue reffing outlaw games, even though i do not get paid. Do you think i could charge per day, or per game, i dont know? i mean i enjoy it but i have to purchase all the stuff and it isnt cheap i most likely go with one pod of paintballs and a nine ounce in case some one runs out early in the game. but i dont know what i should do/ what do yuo think?

Your too young man, especially for outlaw. No offense but there is a difference between calling people out and reffing a game. If you had someone older to help run the game and keep it under control you might have a shot but as it stands now to be brutally honest I don't know anyone that would pay you in this area at least to ref. If you get onto a sponsored team that has a reffing deal with a field you might be able to get sponsorship money that way.

so your 13? i dont think your field would even hire until you have some good experience, fox paintball by me is training refs at age 16 so im gonna get trained, but your fields may be different.

I have the field owners 7-8yr old follow me around and have him call people out and let him watch me work, but I wouldnt want him reffing by himself.

I dont see why not. How long have you been reffing for him?
Droops little brother reffed a game once... I helped. but I think he was 11 or 12. 'Course he didnt get payed.
EDIT... I think the reason why most fields dont want young refs is because they wont really be able to stand up for themselves if theres an issue. Ive met players that dont respec the younger generation and wont do anything they say or ask. So it would be pointless. But Im guessing youre playing with people you know or somewhat know.

If you know the people you play with and your really young that just makes it even worse. The truth is lets say you are a better ref than I am but your 13, shorter than me, can't yell as loud, and of course make less of a presence I would technically be the better ref. Keep in mind these are all PHYSICAL attributes and have nothing to do with you personally its just a fact of life. I know I personally would not feel safe in a paintball game reffed by mainly a 13 year old and I'm sure other members feel the same way. But by all means go out there and get the experience, because it truly is worth more than the money.

Well first off you can't just ref games for free for your buds and then turn around and start charging them, odds are you'll just get booted. Secondly its outlaw, define outlaw, they're not going to pay you when their already avoiding field fee's. Finally just becuase you're calling people out in somebodies back yard doesn't make you a qualified ref. There is more to reffing then just paintchecks and game clocks. Keep up what you're doing in 2 years get a job, till then play.

Bielerga: I am very loud and influencial, and also bigger than most of people i am reffing.[5'7" at age 13

Armory:They Make Me Do work for them such as rake leaves and mow lwans just to be there so i think it is fine about chargeing about maybe 5 bucks a day or something

personally...i absolutely hate it when really young kids try to ref my games. my expirience with them has been purely negative due to the fact that they are unorganized, afraid to get hit, stand in the lanes i'm attempting to shoot, and they aren't loud enough for me to hear to call someone out. i had a pair of "refs" at the field i was playing this weekend who absolutely killed the day because all they did was stand around and wear the jersey but not actually ref. therefore...i don't really pay attention to them. but there is one ref who is older than i by about 10 or 15 years and i respect him. i listen to everything he says and he loud, and isn't afraid to get hit. he even escorts you out if you're really getting lit.....

so...if u do try and ref for big groups.....state your dominance, be loud, have a HUGE presence on the field and DO NOT be afraid to get hit. under most circumstances the players will listen to you better.....

I work with two 13 year old referees. It's a legitimate field, and they get paid just like the rest of us. They're great workers on and off the field, and both are surprisingly mature. They don't have any problems with confronting people who are breaking the rules, and aren't as afraid to get hit these days.

Then again, I see 20 year olds who are like wet noodles when they hit the field. Being a paintball veteran makes all the difference, it doesn't matter whether you're 13 or 20, if you have a bit of experience under your belt you can do the job.

That said, they can't yell as loud as we can, and they can't physically stop a larger player. Getting respect has been an issue for them. As much as I love the little guys, they aren't physically capable of being a primary referee.
