I heard the new SLG's are much better then their unfortunate predeccesors. The a-5 with H.E grip would probably cost you a butt load lets see:

Stock A-5 $179.00
A-5 H.E selector switch $130.00

That's a whopping 310 dollars and for an A-5 probably not worth it.

The Ion XE is a very nice starting marker and was designed to be an affordable version of those flashy high-end speedball markers.
I borrowed one yesterday from a friend for a game of speedball and that thing had no problems shooting ropes even off a View loader force.

I don't know much about SLG's but I have been told from a ref at my local field who plays divison 3 paintball that the newest SLG is nothing to laugh at and is very nice.
Resident Lax know-all, got a lacrosse related question ask here.

Well if you are able to use HPA then SLG all the way. It has some nice features for such a cheap little gun. Now if you have to use co2 then A5 is the answer.
setups=BT TM-7, Double Trigger, Lapco 12" apex ready, Apex barrel, Rotor
Infinity legend, 68/45, cp reg, new designz asa

...well do you plan on buying an HPA tank? If you don't then the only gun that will be able to use CO2 is the A-5. If you do plan on getting an HPA tank then definitely go for the SLG. It will outperform both of the other markers, especially the A-5. Both the SLG and the ION will require an electronic loader as well, so you would still need money for that. A very good electronic loader is the Ricochet Apache, I believe that it is $25 on Action Village.
