I am looking :D currently in buying a vintage SL-68 II paintball gun. And i was wondering what would be the best possible combination of barrel.. loader. ect to make the thing of best performance.
I dont want anybody to say. dont bother with this gun.. because this gun is amazing in its unbreakability and accuracy with stability for pump action. I love the adrenaline effect of the screeching cocking motion of this gun.

So if you guys could help me out that would be great

The SL-68II is by far my favorite paintball gun I've ever used, and that really means something because I've used just about every type of gun there is and then some

here's mine:

Now it's got one of those Winchester 50 round hoppers, although it's kind of ugly and not as cool as I'd been hoping

I've got the stock barrel and a J+J 14" for it, and I've got to say that the stock barrel performs better, if waaay louder. The stock SL-68II barrel is extremely good for crappy paint, it's very large bore and works very very well for some reason, and it's excellent for shooting through breaks if you get a little excited with the pumping or use the really crap paint.

also, since it's already ungodly loud I stuck an intimidator on the front and now it's twice as bad :D

I'm not sure what you want to know, but if you've got any specific questions I'd be glad to help

first off welcome to the forums, :D

second..you want to know how to get a SL 69 II right?

the best place to get one would be off ebay. ive seen (and bidded on) a mint condition SL 68 II that finnaly went for only $75 bucks.

the second place that id reccomend looking for one would be the M.carter Brown forums here, the usually have lots of old pumps for sale.

secondly, upgrades. the only upgrades for the SL's are few and far between.

the only aftermarker barrels i know of for the sl are J&J barrels that come in sl *clamping style*.

as for loaders, motor feeds arent really nessary with a pump, and beacuse the SL 68 has a non-standard feed neck, you need a adaptor to use any modern hoppers

also for the SL's you can get a ASA mount stock, that screws into the ASA, this can end in a remote nipple, or you can add a 12 Gram changer to the end of it to have your SL 68 run on 12's!

and any other upgrades i can think of for a SL would be just replaceing the stock internals with brand new stock internals...no real inprovement, but if your internals are all rusted out, your gun can benifet from having a fresh set of internals installed.

you can still pick up some SL 68 II internalls at Tippmannparts.com

here are all the parts for the sl they still carry.

hope this helps-drummer

^Yeah, what he said

Let me just add that there aren't threads, the barrel is clamped in, and the feedneck accepts many of the old 40 round hoppers like mine in the picture, I highly recommend buying one like that, you can find them for like $5

Also, you can find/buy adapters like he mentioned to use normal hoppers, I've got a couple of em, but they can be pretty difficult to find, when you buy one check and see that it comes with a hopper or a hopper adapter so you're not stuck without one.

czukoman....I have an original sl-68 (my second gun after a splatmaster) that I will never part with because you are right...the gun is nearly indestructable and has a certain charm. I have put so many rounds through it that the friction from the pump has worn some of the anodize off of the stock barrell.

To answer your question your best bet would probably be ebay.

It's hilarious (to me) that we're discussing how awesome this old pump gun is, it was the main rental gun for a long time, much like the 98 is now, and no one liked them for the very same reason

it'll be funny in 15 years to hear how awesome those old 98s are :dodgy:

anyway, get an SL-68 in good condition, and you'll love it, I took it over my phantom (sold the phantom) plus you can buy 5 for what the phantom costs, although you definitely won't get the same performance (consistency and efficiency)

it's also awesome that to completely disassemble the gun, you only loosen the one bolt that holds the barrel, and all the parts come out the front, and by all the parts, I mean all 4 of the parts :P
