Maybe, but wording it that way scares the weenies.

Of course, my version "The 2nd Amendment has no technological cutoff date." Scares the gubbmint types, so whatever.

They also get squeamish at the reminder "Hey, this rifle can kill a man from a half mile away." And that ones still perfectly legal.

Sure, get scared. That just means they'll leave me and my family alone. But the world is not perfect...someone will make it illegal eventually.

Meanwhile someone ( ditsy fart who only knows how to post on facebook, or someone whos 98 and is legally blind, or some 15 year old with 20 friends in the back seat ) is driving a 2 ton bomb down our roads and past schools, hospitals and our homes...but you dont here anyone complain about that do you?

Another problem with today's people...everyone takes everything personally and get offended...truth or not. I stopped caring about crap like that after i got screwed doing the right thing more than once.

Got around to Old Sarge's today (A BIG surplus store right off of Ft. Bragg). Found out I actually like the Medium ALICE a little better than the Large. I didn't hook up the waist belts, but they all ran around the small of my back. The ALICE was designed for 5'10" guys, so it sits above my hips.

On another forum a gent mentioned he has an older Arc'teryx Bora 70 pack he's "too old" to wear anymore. Might see what he wants for that. If nothing else I can pick up an ALICE next week if I'm back up that way. By the time you figure in shipping, it's just as cheap to get the Medium at Sarge's as it is online.

Found Trioxane for $3 a box, and new 1qt. canteens for $2 a pop. They aren't the absolute "cheapest" but they have good prices when you figure in shipping for online orders. And I get to try stuff on and check it out before I buy. I think I have a new favorite store.

great finds .. i always love going to army navy surplus places when i am in town ... none too close to where i live though

triox is a nice heat source, just be somewhat careful, it has formaldehyde in it, and puts off fumes.. after you have opened it, it might be a good idea to wash your hands before you eat.. of course, if you want something really cheap and extremely accessible, at least out here where i live ... cow paddies .. lol .. a little methane goes a long way once you get used to the smell .. haha .. their shelf live is not as long as triox, but it is way cheaper .. :P

Pulled the trigger on that Hellcat rig. Went with the medium woodland ALICE + Sleeping Bag compartment. Looks like it's the most affordable way to get an adjustable ALICE based rig with a chest strap. The other option was Tactical Tailor straps & belt on a Large ALICE, which would end up at being $100 on top of the pack. And it'll take a hell of a lot more to destroy than a similarly priced Kelty or High Sierra pack.

I'll pickup a mess kit, another canteen, etc from Old Sarge's next time I'm up there. Might see if they got any surplus Jungle hammocks.

Oh, and I saw a great line by Dick Marcinko yesterday. "Knives are like American Express. I never leave home without one."

that modified alice rig looks pretty sweet .. woodland camo ... not too popular nowadays, with all the digi around, but it has always been my fav pattern ... kinda throwback and retro, but it beats OD Green, eh ?

Hell, I'm a big OD fan myself. I didn't wear much camo back in my balling days either, just basic earth tones. Green and Brown are damn hard to see if you can sit still.

Though I still got a soft spot for woodland. My dad's old army gear was woodland, I used to live in his old BDU jacket as a kid. Until I outgrew it in high school. Felt cool as hell walking around with Army gear with my last name on it.

I always liked DPM over Woodland my self, but good luck finding any DPM stuff at surplus stores here.

That was damn near the pack I ordered. I still might get one later. Basically the Snugpak Rocket Pack in DPM.

have you ever wondered why crazy ideas always sound better when you're blitzed ? this past weekend, some old buddies were over and we got to pondering and postulating about Dec 21st, and some of the predictions and what not... and we realized that the mayans never said that there was going to be some cataclysmic end ... although it is widely believed that at the end of each "age", it ended cataclysmically ( is that a word ? )... they only said this was going to be when their gods came back to either take them, or visit them, or show up and say HI - whats for lunch ! so we talked about their appearances and their ships and what not, and we decided that all of those pyramids around the world ( there are bunches, not just in egypt, but south america, and even some underwater off of the coast of japan ) are really hiding the ships now, and the pyramids and sphinxes and great, huge, undescribed structures are really just power sources ? then they would take off, but not before blasting out of the ground, turning up old graves and such, and thus making it seem like the biblical reference to the dead rising and all... there was more, but i would really have to dig to remember it all now.

mind you, this all sounded much better when we were in front of the firepit, each with a bottle of our chosen poisen ( vodka for me ). so what do some of you think will happen ... but first, go get with a couple of conspiracy theorist buds and get hammered then try to remember the conversation to bring back here.

and cuy'val... it was a lifetime or two ago, just not long enough
