I have a Proto FS mask, and if i breathe heavily on the inside lense for less than 10 seconds, it already starts to fog. I used to ski quite a bit, and I got some ski goggles, and I can breathe heavily on the inside lense for more than a minute, and not even one speck of fog touches it! Theres just a few droplets of spit instead...So why cant paintball mask companies do this to the inside of their goggles?

they do, its called using thermal lenses, ski goggles are already thermal lens, most masks dont have thermal lens, or if they do, its not as good, also, try breathing thru ur nose, not your mouth, unlike a ski goggle, your mask covers your mouth, whereas in a ski goggle, you cover your mouth with fabric and such and doesnt direct air into your goggles like paintball masks does....

In ski masks you are also paying anywhere from $40-$200 mostly just for the lens. In paintball most lenses go for $20. The material in ski goggles doesn't have to be ASTM tested to 300fps impacts.

There's also a good chance your paintball mask isn't a true thermal lens. A lot of paintball masks are "thermal cured" or "anti-fog" which basically means they have a fog coating on a single pane lens. If that coating wears off you will begin to fog quite easily.

If you have a real thermal pb lens it wont fog...

All of my true thermal lenses I can breath on and they either dont fog or the fog goes away right away.

I don't use ski goggles, (only ahve skied twice, but plan on many more time) but the ones I have looked at also appear to have wind ports that have foam in them, allowing dry air to be forced into the goggles. This is waht fans were made to do in PB masks since you are not traveling fast. Correct me if they dont have these. I just saw what looked like them en the store.

Really, use a thermal lens. They work great. As long as the seal isn't broken between the two panes (the outer pane is the impact resistant part, and the inside is usually a thin flexible plastic, in between sealing them from the outside is a rubber/foam gasket that has adhesive) they will not fog in a game. They really work great.

The reason PB lenses ate cheaper is that they are designed to be replaced about every year, or when hit from 10 feet or less. Unless ski goggles get really scratched, there is no safety reason to replace them.

The switch FS is about 50 and it fogs with the stock single lens. It's great with the thermal though. BUt buy a better mask for that price. I just didn't know that the FS came with A single when I got it. That was in my noob days.

EDIT changed price.

You got jipped, the FS is supposed to come with a thermal lens... and they do usually work pretty well unless the foam stuff between the two panes has any separations at all, no matter how minor they are.

Yeah, i know what you guys mean when u say hopefully my mouth isnt in the ski goggle....But i breathed heavily on both lenses without having them on and there was huge difference in fog...I think ill stick with my Proto FS, because its comfy and had good jaw protection, but ill get a thermal lense. Thx guys

Guys, he's talking about when he breathes on the lens directly, as in a test. Not actual use.

Anyway, the reason is that a $90 paintball mask is around a $25 lens, where a $90 ski mask is around $80 for the lens.
You get what you pay for.

...I wish Oakley or Spy would make Paintball masks. Or at least lenses.

Well take this into consideration. If you were skiing and your lense fogged up, that can be very, very dangerous. So companies have to make them not fog at all, because if they do fog, there can be some law suits on it.

Dangerous as opposed to being shot? :P Some newbies might actually try to take off their mask when they fog up, and that could have pretty serious consequences.
