Okay so recently I attended a game (of about 40 ppl or so) and there was 5 refs I believe. 4 Clearly Visible Refs with Jerseys with Ref Insignia on them, Yellow Goggles and the whole bit. Another ref, wasn't seen however, he was actually in a ghillie suit... So, he spent his time watching key points (or so I would), such as a the spawn zones just to ensure players actually got back in time.. Well I noticed after the game, that he had taken several hits, due to players thinking he was well "An active player in the game".. since they would occasionally see a bush moving or what have you.

So it got me thinking, because this was actually a good idea, because people are more likely to cheat IF and WHEN you can't see the ref...

So is there any suggestions to do so, so that when ghillied as a ref or Camo'd, what to kind of stand-out so other players don't engage you, but at the same time allow you to watch and ref? Perhaps just a standard yellow mask, or something? Just curious as how others get creative when reffing a game.

Around here, it seems, (as Im sure its everywhere), players are more bound to check when they cannot visiblity see the ref and are getting accustomed to how refs run things.. What do you do as a ref, to keep everyone on their toes after than the standard walking or watching key zones..(Vague and broad question I know, but just seeking different ways to approach reffing and making it more effective when the reffing conditions are less than ideal in a player to ref ratio)

Yeah, I think being a ref and hiding is deff not how I would go about things. First of all most of woodsball is built around the honor system. What you probably had happen was a ref trying to be cool but I agree with tenacious when I ref I would much rather be out in the open and not be shot.... which is why I wear a blaze hunting vest when I ref.

Hiding defeats the "enforcement by presence" nature of being a Ref. Hiding would be like photo radar on the streets, sure you might see infractions, but it does not correct the action just records it happened. Unless the hidden Ref "pops out" when he see's an infraction but then after one or two times he/she pops out, the "hidden" factor is defeated.

Pretty worthless manuver IMHO.

I dunno about you guys but I can hide myself repeatedly in the same area, you just have to be smart about it.

You are right though, its partially enforecement by presence.
