PLEASE keep this reasonably serious. If all you're going to do is come in and bash, go elsewhere. Yes you can joke around but please keep on track. PROOF is not required but if you have links to something please post them up.

The History Channel has a show called The Nostradamus Effect. I just finished watching it and learned something I'm not too sure how to feel about.

Obviously the world hasn't ended but there are some serious preparations in place. It seems that the Svalbard Global Seed Vault has been in place for a couple of years now. Cool, right?

But here's the thing... Longyearbyen is only about 520m (1706 feet) above sea level. This is fine for melting glaciers, they'll stay dry.

But what about a meteor/asteroid/comet strike? Will it still be above water? Not that it matters a whole lot since all the volcanoes are supposed to put a dust cloud in the air that will last 30 years.

The next thing is how do we get to it? All the ash in the air will make air travel impossible. No power, no fuel means ships will be useless, assuming they survive any tidal waves. Last it the cold.

The intent is good, but the execution seems to be a fail....

I trust God and ammunition, in that order. Whatever happens, I'll need both.

Two things:

One, I feel fine.

Two, can I be a Ghoul?

I don't have MAJOR problems. I have minor annoyances that YOU consider major problems.

I need to get more 10mm

EDIT: And the ships at sea should be fine. Tsunamis don't really get major height till they about hit land.

My take on it is the seeds are stored for many years after doomsday. When things are getting back to normal and the dust has settled (both literally and figuratively). Then the Earth will be ready to sustain plant life again and we can get the seeds and quickly start harvesting crops again.

Very interesting though.

http://www.survivalseedbank.com

Allows you to store and maintain viable seed for up to and over 20 years in your own home. If disaster hits, shy of the 30 year dust cloud, you would bury this stuff in a PVC pipe and dig it up when disaster hits. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault might have seeds, but who really thinks they'll give them to you.

it talks in the bible about the end times, or armageddon where the coastlands will not be safe, and the mountains will be leveled. so it sounds like the midwest might be the safest .. at least from the floods and the quakes ...

What I found interesting is that not only does the Mayan calendar say December 2012 is the end of everything but the Hopi Indians, Hinduism and Nostradamus all seem to agree.

Web Bot seems to agree as well.

It doesn't. But all the pessimists believe it will be the end of the world. The only calendar that does say anything about the end of the world is the Hindu one.

Short version: life moves in a cycle starting fresh and being enlightened and slowly moving to corruption and death. Supposedly we are in the corruption and death phase now.

ok .... well, i hate to keep using biblical references, but it does also say that the first cataclysmic purge would be with water, and the next would be fire ....

with that in mind, the first chosen survivor had a wooden ship built to survive that event .... what would be the second "lifeboat" ? i think that our government has already considered these options and possibilities .. and maybe that is why there has been more activity on the construction of the international space station ? what better place to monitor the weather patterns and possible radioactivity of the planets surface than space ?

Here's a link to the Hindu stuff: http://www.experienc..._cycle/id/59108

Right now we are in the Kali Yuga. According to the show's calculations the Kali Yuga ends on Dec 21, 2012.

In all the end of the world stuff I've seen, nobody seems to mention the numbers.... 12 21 2012. There's got to be some significance to it.
