I am wondering what everyone does to protect their cameras when they are out on the field. I mean equipment wise, from paint splatter and being hit from a stray shot.

A Kata rain bag, you can find them on Amazon. Here's a pic of one in use on Luke's Nikon:

Note the intact paintball that somehow found its way inside the bag while he was using it... We have no idea how that happened.

Thats what I use. I was takin pics in the rain once and did that plus towels. It stayed dry as a bone even though I did get the lens a little wet once.

I've only done it once, but I use a filter to keep sand and stuff from scratching the lense and thats it.

A friend of mine built a plexi-glass box for his video camera. Worked nicely.

Camera armor for impacts. That's what I'd be most concerned about... But those rain bags are good for the actual paint.

Cameras are pretty rugged nowadays, I'd onyl be worried about paint...

Yeah, a paintball doesn't have nearly enough force to damage a camera body. It's the paint getting forced into every nook and cranny that will ruin your day.

I just bought a sheet of plexi then cut it with a dremel so I could make a box which my camera fits in. I then drilled a hole through the bottom of the box so i can attach the camera to a tripod and have it still be protected. To finish it off I painted it with semigloss black spray paint then tigerstriped it with this light brown/tan color to give it some extra awesomeness. Im going to test it out this weekend when I go paintballing. And btw I gllued it together with several coatings of super glue.

I know it's hardly professional but I threw my camcorder in ziploc bag, with a rubber band to hold it taut over the lens. Worked awesome against splatter, but I have yet to discover how well it'll withstand a direct hit. Hopefully it'll slow it down by being baggy.

Ends up looking like this:

The video's a bit fuzzy but here's an example if you want:

Don't know how well it'd work with, say, an SLR, but it's worth a try for amateur photographers/videographers and it costs basically nothing.

A direct hit would be fine. A paintball won't damage it unless it hit's directly on the screen of your camcorder. If you pay attention to whats going on it's really easy not to get hit. And protecting your camera with your body if you do end up right next to a run through or something works perfectly.
