Always better to stand FOR something than against a group of people, I say.

But against is SO much easier.... You just have to say the exact opposite of what someone else does.....
Clearly against is better.

i just had to say what the hell when i got to this part:
"Critics of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus"

i mean really, what kind of group is that? formed specifically cause they hate the 'Students for Concealed Carry on Campus'

That's what it sounded like to me. I mean, how blatantly retarded is that?

I wrote an essay about carrying concealed weapons on campus last semester too, only my professor thought it was a great idea, and the VP of the college wanted a copy to use at meetings...

Yeah. It's only a simple topic of discussion. People are throwing the subject completely out of proportion. I mean, guns are not a pandemic. Guns don't make decisions to shoot people. They are tools to be respected. The presence of a firearm means absolutely nothing. The only time the firearm becomes important is when it is fired.

What if the firearm has a bayonet attached to it and someone gets impailed? :)
I saw that and couldn't resist. Back to educated discussion...

This professor obviously isn't as educated as he/she should be. Gun crimes are typically lower in areas where there is a well armed public and concealed carry is allowed for licensed individuals. I'm a Democrat but I even realize those facts are reason enough to allow concealed carry. And if they pass the assault weapons ban again I'm going to get a list of everyone that votes yes on it and start anti-them groups.

I think another issue is that people nowadays are much less educated with guns and are taught that they are the real killers in the world, if you were required to take a class on guns i'd bet that the crime rate would drop drastically. ish.

Becc, The group is called "Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, Critics was only capitolized because of sentence structure.

Agreeing with Ecellg, If a group of people fell strongly enough to form up in response to the idea, opposition (critics) will fell justified in organizing as well.

Personally, If the city police can enforce laws on campus, city l;aws should apply, if however they are private campuses, they can write their own rules. Same thinking as the police can't bust me for concealed carry in my house. (If I'm not threatening) But as soon as I'm on their streets, take me down.

And yes, I'm pro-gun.

This isn't the first time I've heard about something like this.
Then again, I work at Virginia Tech, so when people hear guns they are a little quicker to "pull the trigger" and call the cops.
However, there's a lot of people here that want CCW permit holders to be able to carry. There's a bill in the Virginia Senate right now to let Students and Faculty carry (however, being Staff, I want to know why I'm not mentioned...).

Just yesterday, Liberty University board of trustees (board of visitors? Board of something important...) postponed a vote to allow those with CCW's to carry on campus.
The reasoning was rather...dumb. "Liberty University is a large school (18,597 students). The amount of weapons on campus would be too great, as would the risk of a firearm ending up in the wrong hands." Yep, because all of those 18,597 students have a CCW permit. And we all know how careless someone responsible enough to get a CCW permit is with their firearm.

It's pretty stupid if you ask me. I kind of get both sides of it in my house. My Dad has a CCW, multiple firearms (both rifles, shotguns, and pistols). We regularly go shooting on either a friends land (who shoots with us) or the Forest Service range. However my Mom hates them. I had my Mosin Nagant out the other day cleaning it, she walked into the room and saw the gun, and immediately left. It wasn't until I put it away that she came back in.

Some people just never learned that guns don't kill people. A gun isn't going to hop up one day and shoot you.
Someone has to pick up that gun and use it. A gun is no more dangerous than a knife, car, or apple.
My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.
We put our glass to the sky and lift up. And live tonight 'cause you can't take it with ya. So raise a pint for the people that aren't with us. And live tonight 'cause you can't take it with ya...

Apples - The most dangerous thing since sliced ham.

(Sorry man, I understood your point, but I couldn't help it)

Do not underestimate the ham. Do so at your own peril.

I do not understand americans passion for carrying concealed weapons everywhere. Maybe another canuck can back me up on this but we only take our guns hunting.
