the kicker from everything i've read is water. without it, you've got 3 days to animal. then you begin to do things that you would never have believed you would have done before.. to save yourself or your loved ones. The ideal hideout or home would be underground where there is a stream or spring. Underground, the temp stays the same no matter what is going on above, and if you have a water supply, then you only have to worry about food and protection.

edit: and if youre lucky enough to have a spot that has flowing water, you could possibly have a power and energy source to provide work and possibly generate hand crank power for generators and such

@cuy,Val dar

Hmm, .22, practical in a hunting sense like for squirrel and rabbit....but in self defense I'd feel safer with a strong stick haha

Yea. It's not great for self defense, but it's good for just what you said. As for water, I live in water more or less.

Mobles, I'll get the .22, you get the stick. A fight to the death.

As for water, I live at the edge of some wetlands. got a few swamps, some ponds (including a large mill pond), creeks, and a few miles from the river. I can build a filter, and I have purification gear for longer term emergencies and backpacking. As for priority of supplies . . .

You can live 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter (exposure will kill you faster than dehydration), 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food.

I need to pick up a surplus gas mask and some filters.

Ok, but we start five feet from each other, and you have to load ;)

I'm just saying, against an unarmed zombie, or larger animal, I'd feel much safer with a stick or bat. 1. Because it doesn't need to be reloaded, 2. It's quiet, 3. Hard to miss, 4. I'd like to crack a fool..

you silly frenchy .. it wouldn't be much of a battle

i still think underground is the answer.. and your facts do make you rethink your priorities, but air/gas cannisters for masks target specific agents, don't they ? You might need a myriad of cannisters and still not get the right one for the right contagion

I'd rather have a Mosin Nagant than a stick. Same thing more or less except for one can be absolutely abused and still be good to go and the other is a stick.
