My brother has a lot of contacts in the gun industry. He just has a habit of getting to know people. He found a company that was looking to sell a batch of RPK-74s kits. This was last year.

So he picked them up. Well, right after Obama was elected the value of the kits jumped and he offered them to a gunsmith he's friends with. So he basically came out a positive after he kept one of the guns himself.

Well, he told the gunsmith no hurry on building his kit. He just picked it up this week.

They it is Bulgarian made.

Here are the pics:

I can't wait to shoot it. I live next door, so it is easy for me to pick it up and take it out the place I normally shoot at, even if he can't make it.

Although, I still want to get me a Golani or a Saiga22 or something to go hunting. Tim, you interested in going out for Javelina sometime? :P

Have you shot her yet? How's the ammo availability for that mg? Speaking of which, it is in semi only, yes?

If it's an Rpk74, then it would be 5.45x39, which is a bitch to find from what I hear...

What's that mag made of? I can't remember ever seeing a brown mag. I'm thinking they just painted the metal brown to match....

The '74s are most easily recognized by their "red" mags. I guess the mags have to be easily distinguished from '47 mags. Yeah, they are just painted metal.

They are from what I know. Orange Kalashnikov mags have almost always been Bakelite.

Oops, after a quick google search it seems I'm wrong! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakelite

I just assumed metal, because I once handled a metal '74 magazine at a local gun shop. (Randall's Gun Suppy, I think, all I remember is they had a teddy bear holding an UZI as their logo  )
