I heard somewhere that once you go over 14" for a barrel you're no longer adding accuracy. Is this true? Or is there a reason for the 20" barrels?

Pretty true, I use a 14" usually but do use a 16" for better bunker manipulation.

I've read here multiple times that it does not significantly increase accuracy, but does decrease efficiency. I've never tested it myself.

20" barrels are for looks, and it is proven that they do not help accuracy. Anything under 10" is too small, and anything over 14" is overkill.

PunkworksPaintball did a test, and it stated that 20" barrels have no positive effect on accuracy. In fact, barrels themselves have little effect on accuracy...

Longer barrels are quieter but less efficient.... http://www.pbnation....d.php?t=2218018 -

Yes. A longer version of the same barrel will slightly reduce the sound of the marker being fired. The change is usually not enough to tell a difference. On my marker it is only ~ 1dB per 2 inches"

Nor much distance. You use more gas, while probably not so much as you would notice, especially if playing a sniper position. The best advantage of a longer barrel is that it puts your profile further from the end of the barrel, and you can hide in thicker brush.

According to recent Punkworks testing at techpb, the ideal length for a barrel on a CVX valve operating type marker (A5's, 98's, BT4's, etc...) is between 6" and 9"...

Here's the link to the test (and a whole slew of other tests).*

One thing I noticed is that nobody ever thinks about UNPORTED barrels and the physics behind those ones.
