So a friend of mine is looking to get a marker. She's got $500 or so to play with. Problem is, I haven't used any of these markers, so I got no input for her.
She currently uses my ICD Promaster, and I want to get her something that's a step up from that.

My thoughts are...
Axe - Proven platform. Pro teams are shooting it, so it's gotta be alright.
FX - I have a Fusion7, how similar are they? It's closest to what she currently uses. Only thing is, I've heard DP customer service has taken a dive.
Reflex Rail - Just came out, so I know the least about this. I know the old Rails were alright markers, but that's about it.

And yes, she wants a tournament style marker. She likes my Promaster, and absolutely LOVES my Marq6.

My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.

I have no personal hands on experience w/ any of those models, but I can relay what I know based on my cousins recent purchases...

Axe - he picked one of these up a couple months ago & loves it. It's been used in two separate scenario games, one w/ sub freezing temps & the other w/ a constant downpour... it shot flawlessly for him in both situations. Hopefully it works great when the weather is nice.
FX - while not exactly the same, my cousin actually replaced his new G4 w/ the Axe mentioned above. The G4 just had too many little issues & wasn't worth his trouble. Not that the FX would have any issues, but I've heard quite a few stories firsthand at our field re: DP over the past few years to cause me to stay away.
Reflex Rail - don't know, can't say.

EDIT: I'm a big fan of used. I have yet to purchase a new marker & have had extremely good luck w/ the 4 used ones so far. My latest was an '09 Geo+ a couple months ago for just over $500 shipped. That's been my best purchase so far. Others of course have had terrible luck w/ used so take all that w/ a grain of salt.

Good luck w/ the search.

I'm no guru on electros but if you're looking at Empire markers the Mini might be a viable option. I've heard many good things about it and it's at a price range that leaves enough cash free to buy a lightweight air tank and a good hopper if those are needed. Though I don't want an electo I do know that I'd never spend $500.00 on a nice, light tournament grade gun only to get stuck with a cheap 5 pound air tank.

To go with what woodbender has scratched at, does she have air and hopper?
If yes then huzzah but if not then you might want to check the ebay package deals.

Or is a hopper/air upgrade needed, details man give us details.

does she want it detailed? mudflaps on a paintgun?

I completely forgot about the Etek until a little bit ago.

As for hopper and tank, I have plenty of extras she uses. Those will come later.

 I forgot about the Etek as well... I know a couple of guys that have been running it since last year & I'm pretty sure they're happy w/ it. Though one of them did have his crap out on him in the first few minutes of the downpour we had on Saturday, not sure what his issue was.
