How I became a ref is I joined a team and one of my sponsors is a local field. You could try walking up to the field owner and asking them if they need refs. Remember the worse they can say is no.

I started reffin at a tourney I was playin in cuz, they were short of refs and I knew most of the rules at that time. From there on out everyone and their dog has asked me to ref. Check the net for updates and rule books ( in pdf).

volunteer to ref at local feilds, pro or outlaw. if you do a good job they will gladly have you back again. ref a few times and ask if you can be put on the payroll or atleast have free paint/air/feild entrance for reffing.

knowing first aid really looks good to feild owners.

id suggest just asking the feild owner if they need any refs. just volunteer, if they like your performance there likely to hire you and if not you can use that experience as part of a resume to take to another feild saying hey i reffed at feild X and would like to ref here.

That's how I got started, I just showed up without any paintball gear except my mask and when they asked me what I needed I just said; "I'm here to help you out today.". So, he says; "Follow me.".

Thus began my career..........

Yeah just hit up the field manager/field owner and tell them your interested in reffing. Just ask, what do you require to be a reff? Most places are hard up for refs. No matter how many you have, you probally need a few more. We have a paid head ref, and then two speedball teams, and a pretty large scenario team that refs. And at times, we still end up needing more refs. Some times, you just cant get the help you need, when you need it. It;s always nice to have refs on tap.

Me, they needed help reffing a big game. They were taking volunteers. So I volunteered to assist them. And been doing pretty much all our big games at the field since. Taken two certification classes. We do one every six months or so.

Honestly, I am some what tired of reffing. I have only played three times in the past six months... Of course, I save money by reffing!

Mmm, story time.

Somone had put a game on the Game Finder and mentioned a new field nearby and a B-Day party. I showed up at a game at a Military base that another field put on at the Military Facility so Ihad all my stuff in my truck anyway. So my friend and I headed over. We saw the field but the directions lead us past the field and to the guys house, which was just a hop; skip; and a jump away. Shortly after we pull up the owner pulls up in his Promo-Van (Pimped-Out Ice Cream Truck). We found out that although we were early, everyone else was earlier and didnt bring a lot of money so they couldnt play for as long because they couldnt get paint. I told the guy that we were just showing up because we had been going around lately to make sure people where playing safely since it seemed that there was a spurt of games that month. We ended up talking for over 2 hours and got our team sponsored without seeing the rest of them or watching us play.

well some feilds allow some people to jsut walk on to be refs
but others are more like if you know the person, and the toughest require you take a 1 hour ( i think the length is) class on reffing to make you certified
