Hey Guys,

So my Sly Profit's colour has started to peel from the mask. The mask is out of warranty so an RMA is out of the question at this point.

Beneath the colour is a nice shiny chrome finish that I think I will keep. The problem I'm having is removing the remainder of the colour to make it nice and uniform.

Has anyone had experience with this? The colouring on the mask doesn't seem to be a paint but rather some form of a plastic shrink-wrap type covering so it sort of peels away cleanly. Would anyone have any recommendations for removing this, I've heard trying to heat it but haven't tried yet.

I can provide more details/pics if anyone needs, just looking for some community input from someone who's hopefully had more experience cleaning up masks for custom looks more than I have.

Post pics. I'd like to see what this looks like. And have you tried sand paper?

Which part of the mask we talking about here? The frame?

I would not advise this. I'm guessing he's just talking about the frame and I'm also guessing it's plastic. If he wants to keep the 'chrome' finish, sandpaper is not the answer. That will just scratch the frame up and possibly remove the 'chrome' finish.

The only thing I can think is to peel it off piece by piece. Another assumption I'm making is that it's a plastic frame with a shiny film attached, and then a translucent color film on top of that. If this is the case, the only option I can see it to peel it off. Anything else may remove or scratch the shiny film as well as the color film.

PBNation thread on similar issue.

Your probably right. I haven't owned profits, and don't know much about how they are colored.

Here's the shots:

I've tried heat/soaking and they only provide very little help with peeling back the covering. Options like abrasive removal are out of the question because they do pull the 2nd layer off as do things like acetone. I guess I've just got a bit of work ahead of me. Thanks guys.
