Please Vote and Comment Honestly. :)

I have a bet with a friend that the 98 Custom is better because of the ACT and the more Customization.

Well I voted 98 cus I own one and it's great. Although I don't own the one with ACT, but that's ok because it's only chopped once, and that was because my little bro was shooting it way to fast.

shouldn't this be somewhere else? Doesn't seem like it is specific to Northwest region.

but anyway. A-5. Cyclone feed when working right and you have enough air loads a paintball at the right moment so that you won't chop. Remember, chopping and barrel breaks are completely different. ACT won't do anything for barrel breaks, and neither will the cyclone feed.
The upgradeability of the 98c over the A-5 was true at one point but I don't see it as true anymore. Pretty much anything available for the 98c is also available for the A-5.
In cleaning the A-5 wins, but not by much. It's horrible to clean a 98c because of the clamshell design and springs that love to go flying into carpet where they will never be seen again. In theory the A-5 should have all it's internals slide out the back, but usually I still have to loosen the screws. At least springs won't go flying everywhere. But I still prefer it to cleaning the 98c.

The A-5 is heavier, but if you are shooting a Tippmann I doubt weight is a big factor in your marker.

Overall I think the A-5 is slightly better than a 98c with ACT. Definitely better than a non ACT 98c.

Huff n Puff has some VERY good points! One I really agree with is that by virtuem of the Cyclone feed alone, the A5 is the better marker in a non modded marker.
The other thing he got right is...doesnt this belong somewhere else? I know LOTS of people in places other than The Great NW who use both of these types of marker. :(

^^^ What everyone above said about the A-5. I'll pick the A-5 for stock performance, though the 98 is still quality.

Really? Cause i think the 98 has more custom parts, adn the A-5 just has a lot of stocks to up grade it to look different ways. yeah looks are cool and all but they aren't everything

Also the A-5 has a lot more body kits.

But i didn't ask which had more custimization i asked which was better with just the cut down basics

My vote goes for the 98 custom. The reason is that the body is in my opinion much more practical. Internally they are pretty much the same marker - so why is the A-5 so much bigger? It's just a matter of cosmetics to give the A-5 that MP5 look. While the 98 custom doesn't come with a cyclone feed I couldn't care less. I personally would rather have a standard loader anyways, especially for the ~7bps max you would be shooting on a standard trigger.

I voted for both. The A5 is better than the 98, but...at the same time, well...the 98 is better than the A5.

Enjoy.

I'll just throw my two cents in here.

As a player who lives and dies by having sights, I find the A-5's sights are much more useful, than the 98's system. The 98 system on mine was actually crooked, and the rail on top (Platinum) blocked the front sight a lot. Now, I enjoyed mine for the time I had it, but a lot of things are better on the A-5. The cocking handle on the 98 is open and cycles back and forth. While I don't have an issue with that, I do believe the A5 system of having a handle cock the hammer internally without having that slot in the side. Also, the handle doesn't fly back and forth.

The cyclone, while not perfect, pretty much gives you the ability to go full auto in the future without upgrading. The field strip is much easier, and as someone who frequently does work on other markers while at the field, I can tell you that having everything contained is much easier than springs and stuff flying out. On the A5, you can take off the forward grip. The 98's grip is fixed, much to my chagrin.

However, I believe that the A5 is bested by the BT4, but that's just my personal taste. Also, ACT in my opinion is useless. It's not like the 98 was chop happy in the first place.
