Yes about half the size of a freak insert. I demoed one at castle conquest and it shot just as good as my freak inserts and you can use any barrel with these not the special threaded front.
I won't speak for those directly since I don't have direct experience, but other kits I've used with short inserts have shot terribly for me, and therefore don't trust them, I like my back/insert to be anywhere from 4-6 inches in length.
also note that with the compression system you will need to purchase a seperate barrel (or use the stock barrel) and that the barrel you purchase to put in front of the python system will require the same threading as the marker the python kit is attached to
