Luckily, the NRA didn't fold to the Anti-Gun side.
Unfortunately, the way they went about doing it makes them sound crazy.

I unfortunately have dealt with crap like this far too personally. And even then, I don't want to see the Government even mention a regulation on firearms. That's a State issue.
And even more unfortunate, this time, we've seen the youngest and most innocent citizens suffer. But did you see this "FILTERED"s picture? How did people not see this coming? He looked like a crazy bastard. When he tried to buy a gun and got denied, did no one think "Oi, we should watch this fella."?

As the saying goes, "Where there's a will, there's a way." Lanza demonstrated that. Denied buying a gun? Well I'll kill me mum and steal hers!

A persons mental health is the issue here. He felt that this was an acceptable way to go out. Instead of offing himself in his parents basement or what have you, he does this.

My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.

The best article against an assault weapons ban I've ever read.

Anybody get gun related stuff for Christmas this year?

I ended up receiving both Magpul's "The Art of..." DVDs for handgun and shotgun. Looking forward to going through those to see what else I can pick up.

I do believe that if I were a gun owner on that list, I'd go for making the editor an accessory to any and all crimes committed to these people following it.

I guarantee people on that list are going to have negative consequences in their lives for this.

At least they were consistent. The article is topped by this editor's note: "Journal News reporter Dwight R. Worley owns a Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Magnum and has had a residence permit in New York City for that weapon since February 2011."

Well in NYC they have the mag cap limit, so he's not giving up much going with the 686. Wonder if it's the + model with the 7-round cylinder?

Nice Thal. I've got the Magpul Handgun, Carbine, and Precision Rifle videos. Good production quality, solid gun handling instruction, but I'll never look cool enough for one of their videos.

I got some Zombie targets, and I still have to go see my old man's side of the family in the morning and get the other half of my swag. I figure if I get any real gun stuff, it'll be there. I've already got pops considering a CC permit, and even the step mom is looking at getting a pistol.

EDIT: Payback for listing NYC CC permit holders . . .

I'm against any kind of ban, but we really need current and prospective gun owners to regularly demonstrate competence (physical and mental exam, training), responsibility (registration, change of ownership, annual certification), and accountability (liability for accidents, deaths, and/or injury involving gun use or misuse) dependent upon gun type, RPM, number of guns, persons in the household, proximity to schools, hospitals, businesses, etc. The best way for us to preserve our right to bear arms is to DEMONSTRATE we are competent, responsible, and accountable for our guns. There are many among us who take the responsibility of gun ownership and transfer of ownership too lightly, and these people are the same individuals allowing guns to fall into the wrong hands, which makes them the greatest threat to the right to bear arms, not the friends and families mourning the loss of loved ones.

Already done. It's called NICS check and form 4473. For training, see below.

Quote

responsibility (registration, change of ownership, annual certification),

Registration leads to confiscation. Don't believe me? Look at damn near every nation that's done it. Australia, the UK, Germany, etc.

Now, for some FACTS....

1. Permit to carry holders, in virtually every state, are required to go through a training class. Yep, that's certification right there. Many states have some form of hunter's safety course too.

2. Every single sale from an FFL leaves behind a 4473 at that dealer's location. That's close enough to registration. At that point, you the individual named on the 4473, are responsible what happens to that firearm. Were I to ever sell a gun, I would make a bill of sale just to prove that I did so as my own personal protection for this very reason.

3. Annual certification and extra paperwork is going to create yet another tax burden and bureaucracy. We're already in an extreme deficit, with a national debt upwards of 16.4 trillion dollars. What would you cut to provide for all this? Yeah, that's what I thought....

Quote

and accountability (liability for accidents, deaths, and/or injury involving gun use or misuse)

This is already the case. If I shoot someone, regardless of circumstances, I am responsible for that incident. With things like the Youth Handgun Safety Act, if kids get access to an unsecured gun, then the owner is liable.

We don't need more liability laws for gun owners. The ones on the books are sufficient.

Quote

dependent upon gun type, RPM, number of guns, persons in the household, proximity to schools, hospitals, businesses, etc.

Why the hell would it matter how many guns you have, what kind they are, or any of these other factors?

A single shot .22 can still kill someone just like a belt fed machine gun can.

All this "dependent" system would be is an increased penalty to people who wish to have modern firearm designs. It doesn't make anyone any safer.

Chris Costa has a 12+ part "zombie survival" series he's putting out.

Cool stuff, but I noticed that this time around, his students seem largely comprised of amateurs. I like that. It's not that hard to get good shooters to shoot well. But if newbies can quickly learn and improve with your techniques, they must be pretty good.
