most likely minimum wage. no benefits, and deffinately not paid in gear. i know a lot of fields let guys be refs on a volunteer basis and they just come work weekends for free and stuff. its deffinately not a job you will be making real money off of

and you have to be at least 18

Most fields you do have to be 18. However I think my field will let you reff at 15 or 16 if you are one of the few sponsored teams.

Reffing can be rewarding, but most small fields do not pay you to ref. If they do it is generally in discounts on paint. Now if you ref for a private group like a bachelor party or a birthday party they might tip you if you are a good enough ref.

You can ref a lot younger if you are a "sponsored" player and don't get any actual cash, or they give you field credit or something. Every field has their own system so you have to call them and check it out.

At my field, the youngest ref is 15, he get's paid $9 hour, I get paid $11, and and we get free field entrance, and discounts on paint, food, drinks, and at the local proshop. Although we also do more than just reffing.

If you're on a sponsored team, you can ref for them at big games, scenarios and tournaments, which is a requirement of being sponsored. Usually they are rewarded with free food, or paint.
