Have ya'll heard about that fires going on in socal? If not, CNN.com or signonsandiego.com. These thing are huge, and we have a strong santa anna wind heading west from the desert with 50 mph+ winds. It's so strong that the fire fighters had to retreat. All we can do right now is get everyone out of the way. We had a big one about 4 years ago that I was here for too, but this one actually has a chance of taking down my apartment.

Edit: we're now up to 7 fires

Yeah I was at Camp Pendleton for the big one like 4 years ago. That sucker was huge. My wife and I went and stayed in a hotel so it was kinda like a mini vacation. But yeah I've been talking to a few of my friends out there and they have been telling me that these are the worst they've seen.

I was in L.A. at the time of the fires in late 2003. So much stuff in the air, it looked like it was dusk at high noon.

All sdpd have been called in. This fire is easily going to be bigger than the last one.

Well I'm a little upset. I'm about to come back from 7 months in Iraq, and they are talking about canceling our post deployment leave and making us work 7 days a week to do humanitarian work for San Diego. That's great and all, and it may seem selfish, but I don't want to miss Christmas just to help out San Diego. There are other units that can do that. Blah.

Surfing = probably not a good idea at the moment lol. Where you live in LA? My wife and I used to live in Fullerton and she worked at ESPN Hollywood.

Yeah those were my exact thoughts. I thought I had talked to you a while back about being in the Corps. I can almost guarantee you that its some Full Bird or Colonel trying to get promoted.

SoCal is burnin agian. So what else is new? Im used to the fires down there. Seriously I read the headlines in the Sacramento Bee this morning and I thought "again?" Just another reason why I like it up here in NorCal. Much much much cooler, and we burn to the ground less often. :D

call me naive, but doesn't it seem like a good idea to help out people in need? Like people whose houses are gonna burn to ashes?

I mean, you've got plenty of cause to complain, molecule, but from a third-party point of view, I'd say go help 'em out.

Haha well especially since most of the good beaches would take forever to get to or are filled with smoke.

I live in La Canada which is right inbetween Glendale and Pasadena...im about 20 min inland.

Peace,

Wow that sucks. I hope you're alright. You could always move to NY and never worry about wildfires again!
