While filling HPA tanks at the Battle for Berlin scenario, I had one tank basically go boom right in my hands. Luckily, it wasn't that shrapnel type of boom. Instead, the o-ring around the valve blew, 'causing the tank to flail around on the fill hose and hit me a few times. The owner of the tank had had his tank tested the week prior. Whoever tested it didn't put the valve back on right. It was loose...very loose. It was my stupid mistake to not check it that caused me a few bruises. I was shaken up, as I wasn't expecting it, and knowing the pressue behind it, the possibilities for anything worse than those bruises could have happend.

Obviously, this isn't required of those who fill to do, but I know from now on I will be checking the valve. Grant it, it most likely doesn't occur every day, but it's better safe than sorry.

Jeez, you see the hydro, you put faith in the airsmith or tester, or whomever, but still. There's so many safety checks when it comes to tanks I can't blame you for missing one, I am glad you are ok, and I hope this is a good lesson for everyone else.

Wow, that could have been much, much worse. Glad you're ok.

Seriously, if you can't trust trained professionals to do their job correctly who can you trust?

I hate to say it- but it may just come down to only trusting yourself. Check and double-check. Grant it, not all of us are qualified airsmiths, but it never hurts to check, it makes the difference from you reffing that day, or spending it in the hospital, or worse.

Sounds like a small miracle...... Because you weren't hospitalized.

Don't sweat it, anyone could have missed something small like that.

I'm glad you're alright.

Ditto, definitely goes under the list of lessons learned. I will most certainly be following your example now as well. Just goes to show you... never assume.

Lucky, I was just watching a old news clip on my computer at WebDog and a kid had a CO2 tanks explode in his room, he wasn't hurt but the room was trashed! Let's just hope that doesn't happen again!

at my field too many people were just walking up filling and leaving so we put a little "shield type deal" in front of it so now the player has to hold it and a ref fills it up, so if it his on wrong then the "shield type deal" will protect the ref and the players body will protect every one else

In the military we always did any type of high preassure fill of any gas inside a cage, perhaps we should start some kind of standard for that in paintball as well. Maybe not the best for outlaw games, but perhaps a must for any static paintball feilds.

Where I ref, we have a nice cage well away from the players where all the filling goes on. We also have a rule where only field-supplied tanks are to be used. That way we know all the tanks are good. And as a compensation....all fills are free!
