My parents gave me a Model 1944 Mosin Nagant. Its in great condition, and we got around 15 rounds free. I havent fired it yet, but I will soon. It weighs in at around 13 pounds unloaded. It came with a manuel, tools, and a surplus cartridge case, which I dont have a picture of. The pics are off my phone, so theyre not the greatest.

I have the same one, it's very nice, and just so you know the recoil is no were near as bad as people say it will NOT give you shooters shoulder no matter what.

Just be careful about the ammo you choose. There's a wide variety of quality and prices. Surplus ammo uses corrosive primers. What this means is that you need to clean your rifle immediately after use or it will damage the gun. It's perfectly safe to shoot this stuff as long as you're sure to clean it as soon as you get home.

The other thing I need to warn you about is that commercial loads are usually a lot hotter than military loads. Again, perfectly safe to shoot, but unless you're a glutton for punishment go for the lighter ammo. Most military ammo you will find is 147 or 148 grain. Most commercial ammo you will find is 180 grain, although I believe I've seen some 168 grain floating around. These commercial loads make for a very nasty round, and they have a huge amount of recoil (with any load, these guns are suitable for bull moose). Only one company produces a modern commercial round that is similar to the military load. Wolf produces a 150-grain non-corrosive boattail FMJ round. This is the most accurate round available for these guns, although due to the cost ($17 for a box of 20) you will want to shoot it sparingly. Don't buy 200 grain stuff. This is intended for Russian heavy machine guns, and is NOT safe to use in the Nagant.

As for how I know all this, I own a Romanian Dragunov which fires the same ammunition, and have a friend who owns and shoots an M91/30 Mosin Nagant. Be sure to brace it well against your shoulder, and make sure it's NOT against your collar bone. These are very nice guns, and you'll have fun with it whether you use it for target shooting or hunting.

One last note: you CAN safely use the 7.62x53mm ammo intended for Finnish Nagants. The Russian guns can use the Finnish ammo, but the Finnish guns cannot use the Russian ammo. This has been confirmed by firearms experts.
