I have just started the sport kind of. i have been researching and planning for a long time.i wish i knew about this site when i made the mistake and bought my first gun. now i have actually played (with a rental) and i loved it. i have been searching for my new gun and with my field "experience" which is very little i have found that i am an all around defense when needed and run and move also. due to my budget i would get A-5 but $$$. so i have researched adn found the Alpha Black Tactical gun.now obviously i caught my eye being a m-16 look. so at first when looking at the guns i pushed it out of my head figuring it'd be a cheap kinda gun when i saw the price. but then i thought i'll ask about it. he said it was basically a 98c in a cool case so i was sold. especially after i held it and it felt awesome and i heard about weight complaints but i noticed none. but i will ask does this sound like a good idea?

I usually recommend that new players buy a good base marker and play with it for a while before deciding what mods they want wether they're performance or just cosmetic mods but if you have your mind set on the M-16 look then I'd say go for it. It's made by Tippmann so it's going to be reliable. Buying any other marker with the M-16 look or adding all the M-16 cosmetic mods to a base marker would cost MUCH more than the Alpha Tcatical. The 98C, A5, X7, and Alpha line have basically the same internal design so it should perform just as good as any other Tippmann. Get it and let us know what you think.

Another gun that you might want to look into is the Spyder MR-1 it goes for about $100 and it has a military look to it.

Just keep your gun simple for now. Tippmann = Reliable. The Black Tactical sounds like a decent gun though, 9.2 outta 10 --> Here. Welcome to the forums.

The Alpha Black should be a reliable marker. As others have pointed out it has Tippmann designed 98C internals. It's cheaper because it's made for the US Army as a recruiting tool which has them made in China istead of the US as with Tippmann markers. The design is a proven design and Tippmann inspects them upon arrival in the US so they ought to be fine.

A whole post and now mentioning of BTs? I would say go for a BT-4 or A-5.

For a low cost decent marker, go for the Alpha. As was said previously, its based on the 98C which is a really decent beginners marker. You can always upgrade later on to an A5 or something else.

Welcome to the sport (and the forum).

One word of advice -- don't buy the cheapest mask you can. Find a midrange or higher end mask.

Paintball games are much more fun when you can actually see.
