O.K. I just saw another post a talking about this in another state and I was wondering about New York. I looked up the New York State laws and all it said was that it is illegal to buy and be in possession of a "paint pellet gun" if you are under the age of 16. I live outside the city so I was wondering if any of you knew if you are allowed to fire in your own backyard or is it a no no. I would much rather not practice in my yard than get my marker confiscated.

That is best answered by your local police depertment or google your town's by-laws. Although it may be permitted by the state, town by-laws are refined for your local area.

In NYC it is illegal to own a paintball gun. There's at least one indoor field inside the city that rents higher-end guns, they got a permit. People who bring them are informed that they are doing so illegally, and thus advised to bring it disassembled in a non-see through case, with at least the barrel removed, and definitely the air removed. Cops have more important things to do in NYC than bother someone who's responsible with their equipment, but if they wanted, they could write you up for it.

The best thing for you to do is CONTACT YOU LOCAL PD. Local bylaws may be written in such a way so to make the use of markers legal in location A but not in B.

I live on Long Island, not in the city so that is what I was wondering. I play in New York all the time although not in the city and you are allowed to bring your own gun. I am going to contact the local PD around here and see what they say. And what is the punishment if you are caught shooting a paintball gun in the city(Queens)? Because I practice there, and that would be bad if they decided to confiscate all our guns, really bad.

Depends on the laws of the state. Confiscation/destruction of weapons, fines, jail time. The PD should be able to tell you that too.

I dont know where you are, but in my county it is legal for me to both own and use my paintball gun at the age of 16. Im upstate.

If it were otherwise it would definitly have been brought to my attention. The local feild would also mention it Im sure.

I've been to several fields all over NY and CT and none of them had any mention of such. But the city is definitely going to have stricter laws. I live like 45 minutes from the city and the fields have no problem whatsoever.

I've shot and played in my backyard numerous times and so far nothing. I've heard of kids playing airsoft in their nieghborhoods unhindered. Like where the houses are probably 20 ft. from each other.
