pedal is here! I'm very happy with it, the range is nice, the spring return is nice, and the switchless on/off is convinient.

pics up soon.

Well since this thread is like dead...

So, I hate my ambitioness combined with my lack of money. I hate how all the smexy gear just glares at me out of reach...grrr.

But, I'm looking for a job anyway to afford some of the stuff I'd like...even though I'm still not exactly very experienced quite yet, I hate settling for barely average equipment. I'm really looking into starting a band soon anyway, and I'd like some nicer equipment too pull me through, find me a better tone/playability, and play sexy while loud. That's what I'm looking for, not nice, sexy.

That was a half rant, but aw well, ummmm...to the band thing. Anybody recommend equipment that is important/near mandatory for a band? Might be helpfull...

A big enough amp to play over the drummer without making it work too hard.
At least 50 watts solid state or 30 watts tube.

well it just depends, is it a gigging band or just a band getting together to play?

At this point I think they would just be getting together to play.

you have two routes to go-

1.

an amp of some sort to hear over the drummer, one for the bassist too. a SMALL (emphasize small) PA system that you could grow into for use with your singer.

for this PA, i mean the essentials, a small mixer (2 or 3 band will do the job), a mic, and a speaker. you can also reuse the mixer for recording.

2. (the option i would go)

this way you're investing more in a PA system, you would need something a little larger like a 7 or 8 channel, with a few mics, and your speakers.

Now, for your guitar/bass amplification, you have two options: either get a small amp with a good tone and Mic it, or get something like a floor POD or a POD X3 live and plug it straight into the PA. tons of bands do this and have people fooled for them having really amps.

Remember that the "big bands" dont just use their wall of cabinets for sound, usually only one of those is actually plugged in. they just mic one of the cabinets to the PA.

Ah, now I know a bit of what to look for...

But any ideas other than PODs? Please don't make me do Line 6...

By the way, an idea of my random ambitiousness, here's my wishlist from MusiciansFriend

wait what?

dont EVER bandwagon like that again, if you've ever played a line 6 vetta, x3, or x3 live, you would realize they have GREAT products in their high end lines. the JUNK spider isnt the only thing they have.

bandwagonning will make you miss out on alot of good stuff.

(must watch atleast this one) this is just with the pod x3 live, no amp, straight into the recorder of choice/pa

this is used just with the modeling, no amp

heres an alright demo of the vetta, it sounds much better in person

so.. still biased? stay away from the spider though.

edit- remember, i'm not going to suggest you crap or something i wouldnt use if i was in your situation, i only talk about things ive used.

Listen to conor. He's right.
but remember, you are a beginning guitar player, you don't need the best of the best, part of becoming a guitar player is getting and having to stick with for a while, crappy gear.

also, part of trying to get a nice rig involves sacrificing on your other hobbies,

i would LOVE to fix up my mustang, or fix up my home theater, but in order to get me something i feel would be more worthwhile in the long run (get more use out of it) i dont spend my money on car fixups, or little home theater things. i do this so i can save that for a slightly nicer rig.

also, building pedals to sell and fixing pedals and guitars has helped me make a nice chunk of change recently, but honestly.. if you're just starting out at guitar you may not really have the "tone ear" required for fine-honing your pedals.

Farewell all!
I'm off to Idaho for vacation for a month.
I might be in here and there if I can get some Wi-Fi, but i defiantly got better things to do since I have access to two boats and a all girls camp is just around the corner .
I leave Monday.
